So this is my first week driving the golf after buying it 6 months ago, I have used a full tank of fuel and so far only covered 140 miles, ouch. I know the MPG wont be great but I daily a V8 Audi that drinks less than this.

I have had it on the scanner and its not bringing up any codes, is there anything else I should be checking over that wouldn't get picked up on the computer, or should I just replace O2 sensors, MAF etc.

It stinks of fuel on startup and churns out lots of white smoke but this dies down after a minute or 2 on both cold or warm starts, like its running really rich. Performance wise the car feels fine and runs no issues.

    Cheers

Brand new plugs and air filter, doesnt have a cat. Will have a look at getting a new MAF, but would that not throw a code?

You say you’ve plugged it in, plugged it into what?

Because VCDS will be able to read the measuring blocks and you’ll be able to see what’s working properly or not.

No cat and no codes? So it’s been coded out maybe a bad remap. I wouldn’t rule it out

A failing maf wouldn't always throw a code.

Can always check MAF by live data, do a full throttle run in 1 gear (2nd or 3rd is fine) get your peak MAF G/S reading and divide by 0.8 should read your peak power roughly.

    140 g/s = 175bhp.
