Had the Snap Camera down the plug holes too and checked the bores.

i haven't used the Windage Tray yet , but can't decide wether to refitted in now.

Whats everyone's option on windage tray' s ?

I did fit one originally but they are a nightmare to seal sometimes , so removed it while runing in but then discovered the leak was coming from elsewhere.

Never had seal issue with one myself... is the sump flange flat?

It's certainly worth fitting for all the benefits.

    Cheers

It turned out it wasn't the windage tray seal causing the leak, it was the crank sensor above leaking slightly [:x]

So i'm sure i will put the windage tray back on

    Random build photo -

Eibach Anti roll bar and Innovate wideband (Worth every penny) into 2 1/4 inch exhaust, think a 2 1/2 inch stainless exhaust will be next on the shopping list.

GSF apparently don't stock that windage tray anymorebut just a cheap one (Topran) that doesn't clear the crank timing wheel. Vagcat shows the tray at 60 Euros so replacements will be expensive.

    Can you re-use these gaskets?

If relatively recent, the rubber should be ok.

i always use gasket sealer with them , as they don't have as much rubber in them as a standard sump gasket. and don't forget to make the holes in your bell housing Gruds to help get to those two studs that are a B*stard to get to.

I gave a spare one away to Sambo the other week [8(] what shall i charge him for it, just remembered about that one

i'd done have a timing wheel in mine so won't have to worry about that one.

    Loadsmoney!

I bought one as a spare last summer. Elrin-made IIRC, full of VW parts numbers. It's staying put!

Edit: Thought I'd done a thread on it, but no sign [:s]

You knows it! The bell housing is a f$ker!! I'm just waiting on Mr Hillclimber to give the all clear on the drop in windage/baffle kit for the steel sump so I can fit a new sump. Then I won't need one either.

Worth Loctiting two of these into the alumuinium, just for a bit more purchase on the sump?

Needs one without the blank centre section tho... + a serrated nut to stop it coming undone.

Any proper nut/bolt supplier will have 8.8 threaded bar. 10.9 would be nicer, but the alternative is to buy 2 10.9 allen bolts and cut the head off.

The above stud - photobucket has got a sweat on - is a VW part, but has a blank centre section which would need a tall washer to make it work.

    I like Brooky's helicoiling mind.
