Here are some pics of my ongoing mk2 1.8t conversion -

I have so far collected most of the bits required including -

1.8T APY engine from Audi S3
    Corrado G60 CBA 02A box
    New LUK VR6 clutch
    Corrado G60 flywheel
    G60 front callipers
Corrado hydro pedal box master and slave cylinders
    020 > 02A adaptor plate
    cheapo coilovers (jamex)
15" G60 steel wheels for the garage
16" Porsche Design 90's polished for shows
16" Diamond Cut 928's for Summer
15" TeleDails with Dunlop Slicks for 1/4's
    New G60 top mounts
    Custom intercooler
Vibra technics engine, gearbox and wishbone bushes
    lightweight pulley set
    02A shifter
    280mm grooved/drilled front discs
    Grooved/drilled rear discs
    Garett Gt28RS Turbo
    JBS underslung manifold
    DBW pedal
    16v k-jet fuel pump
    Corrado VR6 radiator
    twin slimline fans
    15 row oil cooler
Cv boots, bearings, belts, vag bolts and various other small bits
New spot lamps and red grille surround sticker

First came a 1990 MK2 8v GTI bought as a cheap run about to get to work but within days of it arriving my plans changed....
    [IMG][IMG]

4 hours later it was back in the garage minus the tired 8v Engine
    [IMG]

This was the reason for my change of plans a cheap Cat B Audi S3 already re-mapped to 280bhp

Cool, the S3 should give you some serious cash back.

I stripped the S3 of all the bits I didn't need and sold them on ebay which paid for the Mk2 and of course left me with the 20vT lump happy days :)

Left with the engine I fitted a new water pump (with metal impeller) the plastic one was cracked when we got it off! new belts and lightened pulleys are going on and you can see the corrado G60 flywheel fitted

Shortly after I found the K04 exhaust housing is cracked! and rather than replacing it with another K04 I decided on upgrading it to a Garrett GT28RS.

Also the subframe, ARB and wishbones have been sandblasted and powder coated here they are fitted with vibra technics engine mounts gearbox mount and main wishbone bushes I also replaced all the remaining bushes with poly ones.

I got a cheap set of jamex coilovers we will see what they are like but I didn't want to spend more than the car cost, on just the suspension! [IMG][/IMG][IMG]

Throw the interior loom away for a start! I'd even ditch the relay plate but some like to keep it as its an easy way of distrubuting the feeds from the fuel pump relay..... (thats if your gonna have the immobiliser taken off)

Good work so far, that s3 looked quite nice on those rs4 wheels!

I'm now taking Vento Mike's advice and getting the immobiliser removed from the ECU. So I can now ditch the horrible mess that is interior loom and s3 clocks and keep everything a lot more OEM

    Yes!

Might be worth keeping the relay plate for the fuel pump relay and maybe to tidy it up in the engine bay a bit move the secondry air pump relay (you'll need the relay for ease even if you don't use the pump) and ecu control relay into the cabin.

I've been looking at a tacho converter box to run the mk2 clocks but being a DBW engine wont the ECU need a speed input? so what can I do to get round this run mk3 clocks?

you can run the mk2 rev counter no problem...just one wire from the ecu...it's the speedo that you will be struggling with as the ecu needs the vehicle speed sensor in the grearbox....or run mk3 clocks yeah but never look/fit 100% in a mk2.

I removed the Mk2's engine loom and clocks today, sprayed the front panel and G60 hubs I also got the turbo and manifold off, would it be worth anything even though its cracked? The MK2 and S3 looms and the mk2 clocks are off to Andyout to be modified

Frenno, I'm currently doing a similar conversion in hangleton ( in the process of moving it all to a friends garage in lancing tho ). Whereabouts in brighton are you ?
I'm using remapped OEM ECU also, i can't remember how i've got the speedo feed for the ecu ( it's freshly painted bare shell right now) but i'll go check later today if you're still looking mate
