common, everyone knows mk2s puts out loads more hp than the factory std...at least 200hp!

in fact, mk2 owners will convince you that the more a mk2 engine wears out, the more hp it puts out!

there was a guy on ebay the other week with a pretty nice mk3 16v that supposedly had 200bhp (had a really nice bonnet too)

the spec list only had simple mods and it didnt seem that well looked after either. a lot of blaggers out there.

My Mk1 8v puts out 140bhp (at the fly wheel) and that's an ex-BR Motorsport engine with a TSR rebuilt head on it, tubular manifolding, "played with" injection, etc, etc, etc...

I've seen a 2.0 8v make 170bhp (at the fly wheel) but that had full works head, crazy cam, etc, etc, etc and had literally thousands of pounds spent on just the engine.

220bhp?!? It must be turbo'd with NOS. Oh and that's at the wheels so if it's on an 020 gearbox that'll be what, 255bhp at the fly wheel?! - Not a chance! You'd be strugling to get that from a G60 supercharged 8v, let alone a lightly modified one.

Do these people think we were born yesterday?! It's sad to think someone is acutally going to buy this car and tell all their friends it's got 220bhp at the wheels...

its class, must confess me an a mate being lil bored at work decided to ask him what mods he had done and i cant find the reply now DOH.

    was along lines of

its had loads work done before i got it, its faster than VR6s its got "a cam" ( asked if knew the spec and its a race one...) in it an had other work done to it as well like a de cat and performance leads...

best of all- he has a chip which his mate made for him which is totally custom and gives 25% power increase but i havent fitted that yet!

    total muppet!!!!

I've just asked the seller the following questions:-

    Who built the engine?
Whats the full spec that gives 220bhp @ wheels?
Do you have a dyno print out to prove the power?

Will let you know when he replies!

You'd think he would have at least cleaned the wheels for that ad - Or have put decent alloys on it -It looks terrible!

If he had said 180-185 it might have been more believable.

I love what he say's about the gearbox, capable of 165mph (yeah not with that engine in a mk1).

I had my speedo down to about 130mph with the 4+E box (yeah we all know speedo's lose loads of accuracy after 90mph) & it was taking quite a bit of distance to increase speed getting towards 6000rpm in a car shaped like a brick.....

Mine happily goes off the speedo in 4th but to reach those speeds he mentions it would have to have huge revs (were talking berg cup here  ).

    YEP!

He says he doesn't have the dyno plot after the bodies were fitted - but he's got the one from before - so I've asked if I can see a copy, and what the bore/stroke is :)
