yes so you dont have an oil sensor, though VW kindly put a wire for it on the engine side of the round plug loom. you need to run a wire from the fusebox to the car side of the round plug, and add a MK2 oil temp sensor 049919563A :)

Awesome. Think I'd might as well tackle that one when it's coming up to winter and I don't sweat my knackers off!

So I'm back and forth with little jobs at the minute but have noticed yet another issue.

When the engine was on the bench I removed the ccv breather pipe that runs from block to ccv cap. I used a plate to cover the hole and now there is oil residue all around that area as it's spitting it past the seal behind the plate...

I think that is a sign I need to actually have the breather pipe back in place! Also I don't want an oil drenched engine bay....

I couldn't see the benefits of having that pipe in place but now I do!

All of the below checks are correct....

    17 - clutch switch
    20 - cruise brake switch (pin 3)
    44 - brake light switch (pin 4)

    brake switch:
    1 - permanent live
    2 - ignition live
    3 - cruse brake switch - ecu pin 20
    4 - brake lights on - ecu pin 44
    ....................................
Then on these pinout checks, it's the first and last one that don't check out .
Pin 66 has continuity to black wire but no ignition live......do I need to add this in?

    Pin 58 - white wire.
There is no pin 58 on my ecu connector.
I do get continuity from white wire to the following ecu pins though:
    1
    24
    38
    39
    42

I'm desperate to get the cruise working and I know it's soooo close :)

Edit - Looking at a couple of ecu pinout diagrams it seems that most of the pins above that 58 has continuity to are grounds.

I'm tempted to feed a wire into 58 so it's touching the pin, snip the existing white wire at the plug and wire this new 58 to the white cruise switch wire and see if it works.

    Can't do much harm.....

Ok so I've put an ignition live to the black wire which will make pin 66 live also - no difference at all. I'm assuming it's safe to leave this hooked up?

    @m1keh do you mean I don't need pin 58?

I'm nearly home so will get right onto it and post up today.

Currently pins 66 + ign live , 34, 35 are hooked up ok

    1 fault found :
    00671 - Cruise Control Switch (E45)
    25-10 - Unknown Switch Condition - Intermittent

I have then removed and re-added the login to give 'G00SG' in the component field.

    Ok very strange results....

Nothing at all pressed and cruise OFF
    20180805_123801.jpg

Then cruise ON - same as above
    20180805_123801.jpg

Then the speed up button pushed to the left -
    20180805_124044.jpg
    20180805_124559.jpg

    Then set (fix) button -
    20180805_124102.jpg
    Brakes -
    20180805_124106.jpg

    Clutch -
    20180805_124114.jpg

    Nothing for accelerator.

I think stalk is capput. Is it worth trying the push to make and on off switches as described by dubnutter?

Instead of testing the switch I quickly wired up the diy switches and still the same results from vcds. The only difference in wiring is pin 1 on 4 pin connector is black/green.

Pin 1 is ign live (green/black)
    Pin 2 is ecu pin 34 (blue/grey)
Pin 3 is ecu pin 35 (red)
Pin 4 is ecu pin 66 + ign live (black/white)

That means both sides of my temporary on off switch are ign live...

Flicking the on off switch gives no change in measuring blocks.

    I'm stumped.

It's the only thing missing! I'll manage to get a wire in there but it might not be in factory fashion! Wire from pin 58 joined into the green black wire I already have for the cruise switch should work to make it ign live?

I think I might have found the reason. The MK3 AHU cruise stalk black and white wires are wired the other way round vs other MK1/3 systems. black goes to ecu pin 66, and the white wire is ignition live!

So that probably explains why bit 6 in measuring block 3 is always on. To 'fix' swap ignition live to the white wire and feed pin 66 direct to the stalk black wire :)

That could make a lot of sense!
I did find it odd that it was permanently switched on but reverted back to the missing 58 like yourself and m1keh.

I'll try the wire swap before trying to fit a new pin to ecu :)

My cruise stalk is from a ce1 I do believe as I had to trim the plug a little to make it fit the mk3 loom connector behind the fuse box.

I'll go swap wires now and report back
