Hi I need to get some rivets for these to be refitted. Can someone remind me how many I need per side please? Thank you
It’s only 5 or 6 per arch. You’d be much better off using self tappers though should you ever need to take them off.
Black rivets in a pack of 12 from memory for when did mine, also need self tappers for side skirts, for fixing to the sill through the jacking point covers.
I used these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/19151031...l:Golf&hash=item2c96e770c8:g:DboAAOSwe-FU3Pq7 But can see the advantage of them being removable to check for the dreaded tin-worm. My side skirts are just held on by the screws most of the clips are broken/distorted. The sill mounts are all fine!
someone recommended plastic push type clips, similar to what VW use for trims. saves cutting into the paint that way
Variation on a theme - Generic VW black plastic pegs that expand when the screw is tightened, readily available either with the screws or without. Shrink wrap the screw shafts to prevent metal on metal contact where they pass through the arch holes. The pegs are tightened down onto the rear of the arch lip as you secure the screw, not inserted into the holes. In addition to protecting the holes the shrink wrap at the screws tip bunches up / creates a seal as you tighten giving added insulation against water ingress between the peg and inner arch / hole from the rear. If you've a big bumper car with sill covers, I squared out the round holes at either end of the sill itself that originally would've been pop riveted and inserted the same square pegs... as said above both set ups allow for simple future removal.
I have also used what Zender posted - they work great and means you can get the trims off to clean behind periodically.
These are the ones I got last year... they're actually very useful for other jobs and found in more than one place on MK2's. I underestimated how many I'd end up using and paid way more than I should've because of needing to re-ordered several times rather than buying in bulk. There's plenty of sellers on eBay (and non-eBay), but don't just settle on the first you find, it's well worth shopping around. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321784195797 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224008168633
