    Gutted :(

I hope you get it sorted without too much hassle. Will you be able to find a door over there?

    Just noticed this sSon.

So sorry that such a thing could happen.

Ruth's Mk1 and my Audi were written off for exactly the same reason, I just bought them back and repaired them with cash to spare.

    sDa.

Thanks for the support everyone. I took it to the body shop yesterday and was quoted $1600 for repairs. The body shop said it looks like the insurance will most like write it off but sent the quote in. Now I'm just waiting for the insurance company to call me back. The bad thing about having an 84 mk2 gti here is that they didn't start getting mk2's in the US until 85 so the body shops first quote was for mk1 parts, even though I told him to look up 85 parts. The door was quoted at $350[eek] I found one for $40 lol maybe I'll just take the money and fix it myself for now and live with the little dents. It's not like the guy who just painted my car a few years ago did a good job so I might just rattle can the whole thing matt black and save to get it fixed and resprayed properly in a few years

aye i was quoted 750 to replace the door on mine the door itself was 400 t 500 at the time
i'd fitted later doors by that point and filled the trim holes in

was a bit ****ed off at the time as i'd just had it painted a few months before
like you i got a second hand door and fixed it myself

So last weekend I went to Oklahoma...it's only 510 miles from where I live but as I was going to visit friends in OKC anyways it made the trip a little better. Picked up the door.

Took the old door off today
    [IMG]
and put the new one on.
So the new door had electric mirrors on it so I took that off to find that the new door doesn't have the bracket for the manual adjuster so I'll have to remove it off the old door. I'm going to swap all my glass over too at some point just didn't have time today. The only door handle I had was a chrome mk1 door handle but I haven't been able to find another Porsche 944 handle yet.
I also got around to fitting my passenger seat and wiring it up.

Now it just needs a bath

Ta sDa, now as soon as the insurance pays for the "repairs" to my mk2 I can pay for my wheels and Sirguydo deliver them to a friend who is moving from England back to the states and where I am currently located. But don't fear the Ronals will be kept I just need a change.

This is true and another reason why I want to move back to the UK, there are some good folks over there. I would move to Ireland but there is no USAF base there for me.

So I finally got payment for have my mk2 fixed, which to my surprise the insurance company didn't scrap it. So I decided to take the rear passenger door card off and hammer out the dent the best I could. This is what I started with
    [IMG]
    ended up looking like this
    [IMG]
Then I thought I try the copeidge method of spray can repairs. I got the dented area sanded down
    [IMG]
Tapped up and ready for paint
    [IMG]
Then I sanded down a door ding I did with the wife car
    [IMG]
then a sprayed a few coats of paint
    [IMG]
It's not perfect but I don't think it's too bad for my first time really
    [IMG]
While I was fixing some damage I did, I thought I'd fix a mistake the "painter" made. Thought I would really call him a painter as I think Stevie Wonder could have done a better job. The painter painted over what looked like a small stone but I sure it was just a fleck of dirt on the hatch but he never sanded it down and fixed it, this caused it to start to rust so i fixed that today too.
    From this
    [IMG]
    to this
    [IMG]
Then a few coats for paint
    [IMG]
I think it all turned out pretty good, I didn't have any sand paper to wet sand the paint lines away so I'll do that in a few days if I have time.
I think I'll try again with a dolly and hammer to see if I can get it better, then some filler and it should look pretty good
    [IMG]
This turned out better than I thought it would
    [IMG]
    And one last parting shot

Well my mk2 is going to be parked until next year due to an upcoming deployment, so in the mean time I picked up this to keep me entertained

Didn't they make the mk2 from '85 onwards out in the states ?

So this should be a pretty rare piece out there :)

hahaha, I have been lazy with working on the mk2 but only because I've been busy working 2 jobs and fixing up my house to sell it. I did get the wheels and bit, thank you very much for helping out  My mk2 will never be in show condition and now that I have a mk6 to drive I think it'll be off the road for a bit longer so I can sort through the electrics properly and fit the 9A I have to build, plus I deploy again this summer for 5-6 months. I did get a fuel swirl pot made by a friend of mine in England, I just need to get a fuel pump and the build fuel lines and a bracket to mount under the body where to original fuel pump went.

It starts with a stone chip, then a ding... and before you know it, you own a compressor, two spray guns, should have invested sharss in norton sandpaper and hired a chiropractor...

Ive been using 320 grit wet and havent taken off the acrylic I last shot it with. Wet 800 on the new layed then 1500 and a buff and she will shine. Then you spend as much time again removing the buffing compound thats covered your car and home.

Yeah, they didn't start in the states until '85 though there are some American '84's that I've seen here
