Had my 2105 GTI in for second service yesterday, also had the air conditioning serviced. I know have a very pungent spearment type smell in the car.

Do anyone know if VW fit an air freshener to the air conditioning system, when you have it serviced and regassed.

If so where do I find this air freshener, and how do I remove it ?:thumbd:

The best way is to put it on full heat try get rid of the smell though you do get stuff to spray in though that just masks it

I believe the cause of the smell is a fungal infection. I had an Alfa that stunk to high heaven. As Mushy says try high heat and/or a specialist product to disguise the smell and kill the fungus. My Golf never in ten years had a smell but I always ran the air con (cooling mode) for at least twenty mins every week.Yes even in winter!! Joys of being an anorak.

Thanks for your reply, the smell is fading now, I did contact the dealer where I buy and have my cars serviced, they have done a check and told me that this is a new Volkswagen product, I bought the car new 2015 so this is the first air con service I have had done with the second annual service. I also contacted Volkswagen, not long after I had this service done but to date I have had no reply, surprise, surprise. All I can say is that if this is a new product release by Volkswagen, in my opinion they have got it wrong ! Before I have another air con service I will make enquiries to see if another product can be used. :thumbd:
