    Apex Festival May 10th to 11th 2014

    Introduction

The Apex festival organisers are proud to present a family friendly festival, with a motorsport, classic and retro car twist!
Club GTI has been invited to attend and participate in running a show and go event.

The event is located at the Lydden Hill Race Circuit in Dover, where you can see all of the action from pretty much anywhere - a unique selling point for this venue.
As the event is just 10 mins from the Dover International Tunnel and Ferry Ports, it attracts many Clubs and Enthusiasts from mainland Europe, who have cruised over to come and join in the fun of the UK Festival Scene.
The Apex festival tend to be a host, to a large Aircooled and Watercooled VW scene but this has rapidly spread to a broad range of Retro and Race machinery of all different marques and styles - but with one common thread - the desire to have fun out on the track and join in with likeminded people. The atmosphere in the show grounds and camping areas are laid back, with people and families relaxing with their friends, new and old, whilst being entertained by the on track antics which are in stark contrast to the laid back surroundings.

    Club GTIs involvement 2014

Following our very successful Bedford track day, our next opportunity is to be part of the Apex Festival (10-11th May 2014 at Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Kent - see www.apexfestival.co.uk)

(Officially this is not a timed event so list of the top 10 will be sent via email as per Curby.) The 'Show' side of the challenge will be judged by a public vote! - you can't get a more independent view point than that! and the 'Go' side will be a reflection of how you/your car performed on the flying lap part of the challenge.

Please get in touch ASAP if you would like to participate as we have capacity of 12-15 entrant cars on each day. (To help us plan, could you let us know which days you would be able to potentially enter, and which day you would prefer)

    Other useful info:
Trackday Sign-on will commence at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday
The nearest petrol station is approx 10mins away - so might be best to bring a 20ltr Jerry Can
There are no Cash Machine facilities on site (Although Apex did mention that you could use your credit card / debit card on their stand to obtain some Cash - if you cover the card transaction fees)
There is a limited supply of Helmets available to borrow for FREE (A 50 deposit will be required and refunded on the return of the borrowed helmet)
You can have passengers in your car - they will need to 'Sign on' and receive a wristband to ride shotgun with you.
You can offer your passenger seat to a member of the public that wants a passenger ride, you will collect a taxi-ride pass from the passenger and you'll get 5 back from the organisers for each one you hand in! (Passenger rides have to be a minimum of 3 laps - so you could pull back in and do a quick swap for a second passenger if they are available!)

I'm planning to go to this after a long absence from track days due to moving to a house that needed lots of work. My garage is up, just need to paint the floor, move my car & stuff in and prep the car :o

I will be there, as you know though, my car is not a shower, i do plan on having a go round the track (providing i can get some decent tyres by then), but it will be my first track day so i wouldn't really want to put my name down for a flying lap either lol

i would also be up for camping...

    Toyotec's Apex Festival Experience 2013

Last year, my son and I attended the event after receiving an invite on FB.

We took JENVEE in 8v guise, after replacing the suspension disconnecting the front ARB, with the hope of taking part in 3 out of 4 20min track sessions.

This video take gives you an experience of the track was like in JENVEE the 8v.

In addition to the track sessions, we had the chance to view some great machinery that was there.

Mike Flynn giving his MK1 8v 'Demo car' death. He surely prove that the Kamei car aint no show queen :clap:

This CFM Championship car was pretty rapid out on track.

black spring's EX HR engineering's Golf MK2 ABF was there and on the track.

This is a small sample of the demo car line up of (furthest to nearest) Nick Bosch, Michael Flynn, Maurice Reeves, Peter Miles (Forge Motorsport) and Graham Blackwell (Zetecinside.com)

Jerome Sampling the Reeves' MK1 20vT

The saying goes , "first there was air and then water", so naturally there was the 'Aircooled' crowd.

    Like this Karmann Ghia

    These Type 2s
    [IMG]

    Many Type 1 Beetles
    [IMG]

And this assorted of Type 3 Notchback, Liftback and Squareback

There were even 'Super Vee' racers

But it was not limited to just VW based brands...

    Ford MK1 Mexico

Sporting a MK1 Focus ST engine turned north south on ITBs

Ford Mk2 Escort, powered by Pinto and side drafts

This KP60 series drift Toyota Starlet was packing a not so Toyota, Cosworth engine. It was a crowd pleaser when performing slides and sounded pretty angry at full chat.

Another KP series Starlet, which had its slant OHV K series junked and this time packing a more modern 4AGE motor.

    This was also very interesting.

    Volvo 300 series with SR20DET heart :o

    The original Hachiroku (AE-86)

It was quite entertaining to see beetle's actually getting completely sideways without ending up in the barriers.

In a similar manner to these BMWs

We had a great time and look forward to the event this year.

Hope to see you there

As with our 'test' days at Curby you are allowed a siting lap to get used to the track, warm your tyres etc and another final lap, were your 'test' will commence from, already with momentum.
Of course if you are not confident about all of this then please do come as there is lots to see.
You will not regret it that is for sure

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a pm or ask me when next you see me in person.
