I will let Peter post up the details but he has been running it at club sprints for a couple of years and next outing is due today

It is as great in the flesh as it looks in pictures, I saw it a couple of weeks ago when I was starting the plans on mine (although it will be very different in almost every detail there are not many race Golfs to reference in Aus. especially Mk1's)

Updates are long overdue, the car's been out to 14 races since it was completed.

I'll have to copy a bunch of stuff over here at some stage.

Meanwhile here's some interior shots from today.

I was out at Sandown raceway (Noble Park, Victoria, Australia) today.

Racing in 40C heat. My oil tank co-pilot got to 127C.

    I'm still trying to re-hydate!

Looks great. I`m really liking the inside shots, looks tidier than many do when they remove the dash. Nice one.

I still don`t like that checker plate though. Sorry, but it just doesn`t go with the quality of the rest of the interior imo.

Not tempted to unblank the front ducts for some brake cooling ?

If your ambient temps are so hot, I seriously suggest you look at a decent roof vent/scoop. The amount of fresh air they blow onto you is amazing. I don`t really like them, even though I have one on mine, but I wouldn`t take it off now having felt how much cooler the cabin and I am with it.

One day I'll make a nicer/lighter box for the dry sump system. I'm teaching myself to TIG weld at the moment so that box is somewhere on the list, might even move it further down the back somewhere.

Brake cooling hasn't been an issue with the Tarox brakes and adding ducting would make removing the splitter for transport a bit more of a pain.

It was an unusually hot day today, mostly it rains when I go racing.

Ventilation isn't too bad once you're moving, it's the sitting around waiting for the race to start that gets unbearable.

I'm thinking about moving the switch box and tidying up the wiring. I've started using a HANS device and it stops me looking down at the switches so I might make console of sorts and move them up where I can see them.

Trouble is with no dash there's nowhere to hide the mess. If the really observant people are wondering why my dash is shaped like that, it's because this is an Australian built '76 golf and we got the German tooling from the '74 line.

It's all a work in progress. I've accumulated a few too many gadgets in there so it's time to pull a bit of stuff out too.
