The beatles have just rereleased Let it Be (let it be Naked) with all the production changed as they always hated it as did a lot of fans. Now you can buy the album as it could have sounded all them years ago. When I was in a band we released one single on our label. I hated the production. It was a minor Indipendent 'hit' played by John Peel and a few others but with better production (we had a guy fresh from engineering Coldplay and Atomic Kittens 1st LPs) I believe it would have done better.

Atomic Kitten and Coldplay, two true benchmarks of high quality

(I can't stand either by the way  )

I haven't heard that Beatles stuff. But I bet the songs STILL sound utterly incredible, just like the famous versions. Your single may have sold more with different production, but it wouldn't have been any better, unless you radically altered the melodies, structures and lyrics at the same time.

i just personally think a druggy is not a good role model, its like people except his habbit because hes pete dorherty its just bull poo, and his style off music in my opinion is very bad wat kind of so called musicition turns up 2 gigs totally f**k`d and does half the set and then f**ks off

Sadly I have to take issue with this a bit. The Beatles were ALL about production and arrangement, think George Martin. Fundamentally they made (very effective) rudimentary music. They used the 'three chord trick' repeatedly and copied Bach for his contrapuntal (big word, I know) rhythms. Without great production the beatles would have been far less impressive, though talented and prolific none the less. Fully agree about Hendrix though. He's amazing whatever.

Dub Dave- i totally agree with you on this production argument, and its so noticeable on "down in albion"
i was quite shocked at what theyd done to killamanjaro.

It seems to me people are so split on pete doherty and his music. i think for the most its between the people who read the crap in the papers and the people who take time to listen to his music. allthough theres a massive amount of people who seem to take massive offense to his drug problems. Fair enough i suppose, it wouldnt put me off a musician.

i couldnt give a toss if he's a good role model or not. What so only "good" role models should be aloud a music career??? just take a look back at the best history has to offer in writing, music, art, infact anything creative.

i have to wonder how many people who sl*g doherty off calling him a poo musician have seen him at his best. because theres no doubt in my mind that he is fantastic. seeing the libertines perform live is an electrifying experience.

ive had a quick scout for this first babyshambles album but didnt find it. can you point in the right direction as its something i'd like to get.

The fact this guy works in the industry and has been to 600 gigs surely stands for something. i mean if you cant appretiate good music after that many who can??
He's seen doherty in his prime and knows how good he is/was. fair enough isnt it??? after all has anyone of you?

evryones entitled to hate the guy, doesnt really bother me either way. But credit where credits due, take away the drugs and the poo attitude (sometimes)and he's capable of some great things.

    Balls, IMO.

I dont know anyone who bases a decision on music on the character/lifestyle of the artist.

    Yes ... for you maybe.

    Not for us all.

IMO (and many others too) he doesnt have a `best` so thats an irrelevant comment.

Some people just think hes sh*t and thats that.

This is an issue of taste/preference/personal taste so no, it means f*ck all !

    See above.

Music is all about personal taste so its entirely subjective.

He thinks Doherty is good, many dont. End of.

    :)

I'm guessing Gary Glitters record sales may have fallen just a tad over the last six months?

You cant buy a Gary Glitter CD in the shops now. All been recalled.

Clearly no one wants to be in his gang.

Pete doherty is a f@nny imo - saw babyshambles live in Bar M in Ibiza in the summer. The guy was wasted out his nut and singin was mince. He then proceeded to smash up his guitar on stage. There were real fans of his music there and they were shocked at how bad he was (singin wise). Im sure if he was sober or not wasted for a short period of time he might be half decent but sadly for him he never seems to be.

I stated he is as important as Lennon, not that Id seen Lennon Live. If its like that then IMO Lennon is way overated and wouldnt see him live if he came back from the dead for my birthday. With a cake.

Id take his Casino off him and give him a firm 'thanks but no thanks'
