Have seen a thread on here before about baffled sumps. Was wondering where would be the best place to get one I know JBS do them and Jabba but also seen INA engineering on here do them which seem like a nice bit of kit. Anyone had any experience with any if these companies and their sumps for the 20vt.
got mine from Jabba, after finding out the so called baffled one on there wasn't exactly baffled in the way it should have been. Been fine on the race car. 2ltr 20v non turbo (1.8t block)
I guess if your saying the jabba one has been no probs on a race car then that surely has to be the ultimate test.
This is a Seat Sport sump for an internal water pump 20v engine: Which is off one of these: These are NLA but are replicated. Back in the day, it seems they were also made in the UK when Northern South were running the Seat Leon Supercopa Mk1s, by a company somewhere around Northampton. The flaps in the sumps are BMW parts. This is the design you should be looking for. Check the trap door design carefully - you do not want anything coming off and blocking pick up pipes. If you have on old-style external water pump engine, then the sump needed is a different shape.
I have a BAM engine which I assume is the internal propeller pump off the cambelt. I think the external ones are off the 180bhp engines, or I could be taking absolute rubbish. Can the sump shown be purchased? If so where from? The trap doors in it seem to be made of rubber that is pressed/moulded into the baffles which allows it to open?
That is one pretty exciting sump ! youd be able to give it anything , if tis fitted on that seat ! Jo
I got mine from Backdraft Motorsport, it looks the same as the one above and has been fine. Check their site.
I tried for ages to get one of those Seat Sport sumps but had no joy, ended up getting one from Jabba in the end who have sorted their trap door design. Good quality item IMO.
backdraft one is copy of seat sports one and works well. what I use myself. (and original seat sport one also)
I have a back draft on mine, no issues so far even with super sticky track tyres at bedford or when 1/4 miling give Alex a call, very nice lad and tbh its not worth the risk of running a 20vt that will be given any kind of stick with out the baffles
Interesting aspect of any baffled sump, aside from the baffles, is how the trap doors are mounted and any fatigue which could be suffered. Compare this from above: With this: Bill knows these more intimately that I, but those two pips holding the doors on the first one don't look mega.
