This seems to be a period looking modern version of the classic Bremen. Anyone tried this for a Mk2 Golf? Not cheap though.
I think you've answered your own question there - it's way too expensive and the Bremen (unless someone bought one at the time) was not a standard unit for the Mk2 GTI. I believe it was typically installed in higher spec'd BMW/Mercedes or Porsche models. You should still be able to get your hands on other period Blaupunkt models that would definitely have been in a Mk2 at the time.
Blaupunkt was sold in 2009 and has since been sold to a string of different companies. It's pretty much only the name that's left now, not the old school quality. Ebay can offer similar city-named head units such as the San Francisco, but they mostly come from the far east, not Germany or Portugal like the old ones did. From wiki...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaupunkt "Blaupunktwas a German manufacturer of mostly car audio equipment. It was owned Robert Bosch GmbH from 1933 until 1 March 2009, when it was sold to Aurelius AG of Germany. It filed for bankruptcy in late 2015[1] with liquidation proceedings completed in early 2016.[2][3] The brand is now managed by GIP Development SARL of Luxembourg and is used on various product groups worldwide." https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-RADIO-CD-USB-SD-BLAUPUNKT-SAN-FRANCISCO-320-AM-FM-MW-RDS-NEW-BOXED-03/114646352108?hash=item1ab17480ec:g:gaoAAOSwhXJf-duc&LH_ItemCondition=1000 Ditto for the Blaupunkt TV's you can find and any other Blaupunkt named properties. Having said all that, I think the Bremen SQR46 is manufactured in Germany. Strangely the price never seems to vary much from £399.99.
As much as love my Mk2, it would be a cold day in hell before I'd hand over 399 pounds for that Bremen. It's a pity the brand has fallen on hard times, as far as I'm concerned, Blaupunkt was the best of all of the brands. I've had some modern blaupunkt things, home stereo- brilliant, smart tv- awful and blew up in two months while watching monty python, plus was a nightmare with the apps and channels it used. Stereo had in a car about 8 years ago was very good. Now if you want something retro, I've got an 8 track in the cupboard next to our radiogram.
Bought one of these. Amazon had it on offer. £300.00 yes it’s still too much but I’ve got amps that need a 4v input and Bluetooth is vital for me.
