Hi All What are peoples preferences for set up at Brands hatch ??? tyre pressures ,soft/hard suspension, camber etc etc ???? Car is stripped out, roll cage and 2 x sparco seats, polycarb windows and sunroof removed. I am running 195 45 15 Toyo Proxes so will start with 26 psi cold pressure all round unless anyone has any better suggestions?? I am keen to get peoples thoughts on suspension set up, some say to have the set up on the back soft to stop the back end bouncing , again thoughts ??? Car suspension is currently hard as nails thanks
Usually I have learned, start at 26 psi and after a few laps getting heat into the tires, come in and check the tire pressure. If it is at about 30 psi all round on a Golf MK2 this is accpetable. What suspension/damping system are you running
Car has adjustable AVO coilovers, eibach front and rear anti roll bars and polybushed all round. Suspension damping is currently on hard
It is bouncy on the left hand side of the track braking for paddock. Also find in first sessions its a bit easy to end up sideways through Graham Hill bend when tracks a bit greasy. No harm starting softer and then adjusting once you have a feel for the track/conditions.
Don't just set it on hard. It's hardly ever quicker. Mine are set around the middle, with tweaking either way to tune handling. Never full hard though. THE best way to understand the difference is to take a notepad and pen. Set front to hard, Rear to soft and go out. It'll probably understeer. Next, Rear hard, front soft. Careful, the rear will be lively. Each time, note how it feels. Then try rear in the middle, front soft then front hard. Next front middle, Rear hard then soft. That will give you an understanding of what each feels like. I did it years ago and it is something I still benefit from. So many people don't take half a day to do this and never gain that knowledge. Prawn put it off for ages, then when he did it said he should have done it years ago. Trust me it's knowledge you'll always benefit from at every future trackday.
