A good way to build a garage is the use of sandwichpanels ( pur/pir) as used for industrial buildings. These are sold in B quality ( often as nice as A panels due overstock, canceled order , cut to wrong size or wrong color order or minor damage, uneven foam filled )
These sell for as little as 20 /sq metre but of course you need a framework to get the structure, but its fast to build, looks pretty good and on isolation values its very good. ( even houses get build more and more that way )

Do you have a link to them Hugo? Sounds good. I wonder if it would be classed as a building or shed though for planning permission.

This is as far as we got yesterday, I put the dormer looking bit over the door so I wont have to have a gutter over the door.

Great skills Ian. Wish I had done anything like that amount of work myself when mine was built!

Got to say that is very impressive, I know you say it is / was a budget build but that dose not for a second show in the work to date (bar the window handle) ;)

Like the dormer addition. But why would it be a problem having a gutter over the door?

I need to build steps down to the door so thought it the gutter was there the steps would have to be wider.

I also though about putting a sign on the 'Dads dog house' or something lol

Roof tiles are coming today, i've gone for some Irish made Quinn tiles that have a thinner leading edge than the Marley Modern. I got 400 for 327 so hopefully they will cover it.

I've spent another 30 on wood for some extra horizontal support and the bits I cut off the rafters are the correct angle to go between the horizontal and diagonal.

I'm using this method for my garage, a steel frame clad with sandwich panels. 105mm of foam for the walls & roof. All covered under permitted development for an outbuilding.

The steel frame allows a high clear roof structure so I can get a 2 post ramp in.

Its all bolt together so could be taken down if I ever move.

Garage is looking good Ian

I'm buying it through a company called 3cb - Click Me

They will design the building to your spec and can supply it as a kit for self build. They offer several thicknesses of panels and colours.

Steve what sort of 2 poster are you looking at? I have been looking into these and this seams quite reasonable, and keeping in mind that I would not be using it as much as in a commercial garage, so I guess the "made in China" quality would be all ok for a few years DIY use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPERB-BRAND-NEW-CAR-RAMP-2-POST-LIFT-ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC-CAR-LIFT-VEHICLE-RAMP-/231022804962?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item35ca083fe2

But it would require a fairly substantial floor to bolt it to?

The other option seams to be this sort of thing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOBILE-SCISSOR-CAR-LIFT-VEHICLE-LIFT-not-2-post-lift-BRAND-NEW-/261302183786?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cd6d2e76a clearly less assess under the car but seams to be a not too bad compromise? Has any one used one of these sorts of lifts?

I have an old thread here looking at 2 & 4 post ramps, will update that rather than hijack Ian's thread.

Could a Mod tidy this thread and move the ramp info?

The bricks are all done now, I found s metal side door on eBay for 15
    [IMG]

Then I figured out the spacing for the tiles which was length of rafter + overhang - length of one tile \ (rows of tiles-1)

And then I started on the felt and lats, soon after it started to rain and hasn't stopped since lol
