Have decided to create a car for track days as I have a mate who keeps begging me to go to them with him but the Audi is not suitable.

    Should I:

    (a) Use the 'rocco (see sig) which has just 70k on the clock but needs some bodywork tlc after suffering at my sister's overeager hands and fix it up for the task; or

    (b) buy a cheap 16v Mk2?

I was going to get a small-bumper Mk2 16v for say 7-900 but then it occurred to me that the 'rocco (90bhp) is just sitting there mouldering in the garage and could be used instead and then I could spend the money tweaking it up to sctratch.

What do you people think? [:s]

Shame the Rocco ain't a GTX, mine was nifty. Wish I still had that for a blast round a track or two. :)

well my mk2 valver cost me 750 - and from the same guy i got some eibach arb's for 75

put the two together and already it had the makings of a quick budget track car.

still with the tyres it came with and i was pushing a 300bhp cossie round donny as well as overtaking an elise.

I'd have thought an A3 T quattro Sport would be quite suitable..... ;)

I thought that track days had the policy of:

"if there's an accident you go 50/50 and pay for your own damages"

is that right? If so, I wouldnt want to risk a 10k audi if I couldnt afford to burn 10k in a fire. dunno about you guys.

If you bend it, you've always got the 'rocco to smoke about in...

Jonny, keep your eye on Ebay and the auction sites like www.salvage.co.uk

The Part Exchange auctions on there have a few MK2s going through, and they do go at good prices, much better than what you'd see on Auto Trader.

    HTH!

Hmm the prob with the audi is that all the traction control style gizmos make it dull on a track. I want old-fashioned thrills! Plus of course there is the thought of bending it.

Having had 3 Mk2 16vs, I know they make good track cars. Question is, would the Scirocco???

It has the advantage of being (a) free and (b) worth two bags of sweets if I do bend it. Just not sure if there as many parts available for roccos?

Tom thanks for the tip, but having had one salvaged car already, I am pretty good at salvage yards!

I have a rocco gtx im setting up for the track, agreed parts arent readily available and do require a bit of searching but its more individual than a golf. Dont get me wrong i have a golf as well but just something about the rocco and the fact i only paid 100 notes for it [:D]

Hmmm well just started up the Rocco for the first time in several months. Took 1/2 hr and some jump leads....

Oh the joys of a new project. Sounds rough, one door has dropped on its hinges and the front suspension clonks worse than a dutchman in clogs. Still it's a dub and thus worthy of effort.

Some way from the track I fear though. [:s]
