Just been looking at the weights of all the mk2 and it looks like I've got a lot of work to do! My mk2 is 1040kg with 20vt, quaife diff, cage, full glass, sun roof and 5 doors Cant believe it, thought that was good going.
864kg MK1 GTi 8v with full roll cage, and approximately 22L of petrol. Car has all the original glass, bumpers, dash, door skins, battery, full wiring harness. Added a large SPa Fire Sysyem Removed: - Interior - Undercoating was only removed in the wheel arches Im in the US, and the class I race in limits what can be removed, so the car good still loose alot of weight but not aloud to.
1997 MK4 (6n) polo 5dr 1.6 16v, everything still in it, seats door cards, 1x12'' sub and amp, MDF boot floor etc half tank of fuel (approx 20l) and 90kg of driver weight produced this.. due to do another track day either late feb early march so will take all the rear seats out and ICE before i do the set up again and see what i weighs then
currently fitting my new roof and tailgate old roof 21kg (inc support bars) - new roof 4kg old boot 9kg- new boot 1kg taking me ever closer to the magic 699- kg mark, but doubt i shall make it as i've only got a rear beam and doors left to change (and im not doing the doors simply for money reasons and i think its gone far enough) will get the car weighed at Easter for an offical weight
I think I can see where the weight in the front has gone!! http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1812601&postcount=170 How does the rest of it look?
just weighed my mk2 at the local scrappers..... 1986 mk2 golf 2.8 vr6 full original panels with all underseal part stripped interior, still has carpets, headlining, 2 seats and dash polycarb windows except front screen bbs rz 195 50 15 audi s2 front calipers (heavy but worth it) 3rd of a tank of fuel SD half cage 1060kgs its a bit heavier than id hoped but still got a lot to loose, going for fibreglass bonnet and boot then some nice seats hopefully get down under 1000kgs easy enough. this currently give me 194bhp per ton if i get down to 900kgs 228 bhp per ton!! quite a difference
Been a while since I looked at this. Dreading weighing my mk1 as I have a feeling that it will be a lot heavier than I once thought/hoped for [:^(]
BHP per ton really puts it into perspective doesnt it! However reaching 900kgs with a VR6 (losing 160kgs from where you are) maybe a bit unrealistic! Panels may save you 20-30kg.. As you already have perspex!
My Audi A3 quattro with full glass, all standard steel panels, stripped interior, 2x bucket seats, welded in cage, Nos and w/m injection set up, Big 6pot brakes, H&R Arb-s, and half a tank full of fuel came in at 1360kg with me in it, i am 90kg so that makes it 1270kg. Standard they are circa 1.5 ton
i know getting a mk2 vr down to 900kg will be very hard! im aiming for 950kg or so, gonna get a fibreglass bonnet and boot last off when ive got rid of 'free' weight first. had a productive start this week, all the interior is now stripped and the underseal from inside has been removed (ball ache job) the difference is deffo noticeable already. still got front doors to trim and rear seat frame to remove. every little helps lol
Just had the mk1 on the local weigh bridge 800kg (+ / - 10 KG) with 3/4 tank of fuel. Perspex windows, fiberglass bonnet and wings, internal tar removed, x2 buckets, plumbed extinguisher, 6 point bolt in cage, KR 16v engine, full bumpers and heavy wheels.
Weighed mine for the race at the weekend - 900kg with me in it, and about 10 litres of fuel (50kg over the my lowest limit). All stripped, but with standard panels and glass. Normal race bits, and a few extra bars in the cage. Bigger brakes, wheels and tyres... Not sure where I can remove 50kg from, within the Class B VAG Trophy regs
weighed my little brothers mk2 today its a 1.3 banded steels full interior not stripped in any way and the results 900kg..boom
