Mine's a little below 800kg. Race regs for both Stock Hatch and the Classic Touring cars won't let you go below 790kg.

But since I'm no longer racing, I think a diet is in order for the old girl!

How do you get it down to that weight?

    pictures in a few weeks....
as said i reckon it will still be sub 700kg with the other bit's to go on and once paints done

    quick spec of lightweight bits...
    underseal removal
    ally roof
    carbon bonnet with honeycomb structure
    fibreglass front wings
fibreglass wide arch kit and spoiler
    fibreglass tailgate
    fibreglass doors
    plastic windows (no rubbers)
    fibreglass seat
    8x13 alleycats
sparewheel well and lots of excess brackets and metal are in the bin.

i've also got a full weld in cage. i was rather shocked by the weight of it, as were the guys at tracksport.

That's super light, but how much more is there to go in?

I think there's another weights thread - will go and have a look and merge this one in with it if there is.. [edit: done - any probs, let me know]

wondered where the hell the thread went. :S there was no 'moved' thing in motorsport area...

    bit's still to go on.
lightweight battery was out the car (6kg)
bonnet was off (2kg) as was front spoiler (2kg).
rear screen is out as it's getting bonded in after paint. (2kg)
still got brake duct pipe to put on(1kg).
    harnesses (5kg)
lower brace was added as well (3kg)
other than that it's paint, some sealants and not much else.

had a 1/4 tank of fuel in it. 1/4 tank is based on my half tank so probably about 8-10 litres of fuel!

there isn't much more weight that can be lost. i could hole saw a few areas but i am not sure it would be worth the weight loss. exhait is going to be changed and that should free up a couple of kg as the back box is much lighter.

this is also a fully mot passable car as well. lights and full loom needed to operate is there.

i am rather impressed with it. :) bhp/ton calculations are working out rather nicely!

I moved the posts across - should have merged the threads [:$]

So looking very good indeed. Which engine is it running?

Full 3-4mm perspex I presume? Much cutting of inside rear panels and front doors? The ex-Carvell / Tippet car is yet to be weighed, but was quoted ~ 800-810kg IIRC, with half size tank, metal bonnet, wings, no underseal & lightened metal hatch (& 8V on twin 45s).

looking and sounding very good. engine is a home built 1900 8v on webber tb's. nothing too fancy at all. it's in so i can learn the traits of the car and have some fun before i get a screamer in there. map was done at the weekend car sounded great, was dam scary watching something you've spent 3.5 years building getting thrashed to death!

    4mm perspex on windows.
inners have been lightly trimmed. no holesaw action (yet). front doors are a bit special, you'll see the pics soon enough...

my plan of free power with the weight loss has payed off.

That`s light - great spec

In comparison mine is 860kgs (standard 1600 GTI was 840kgs) with the following:

9A on KJet with FD box
Six point bolt in cage with rear harness bar and doorbars
Driver`s fibreglass seat with custom tube & pillar mounts both sides
Original dashboard but with lower section removed
All trim removed except door cards
Standard panels and full glass ... even rear wiper !
Standard fuel tank replaced with fuel cell in spare wheel well
    14" steels
    Small plumbed - in extinguisher

Tracksport also cornerweighted mine, a long trip down there ! Now have a contact for cornerweighting here in Aberdeen.

.. hope you`re not entering the road class ;)

Cracking efforts guys, Sounds impressive Pol, seeing your frigging berg cup kit has made me want it now pol!!!!

I dummy fitted my comp TH's 7x15's and i am defo going to have to run some form of arches, they prob stick out a good 1.5/2 cm from the arches.

    Bit of a bugger

My mk1 is has doors lightened, all glass removed, poly carb full length windows. Same with boot everything taken out of it (steal jobbie) with perpex rear window and side windows.

stripped car, all sound deadening removed and tar etc. mk2 upper dash, fiberglass driver sparco driver seat, harness and harness bar car floor and roof sanded back and sprayed silver/grey.

    6 point roll center cage.

G60 mid tuned motor G werks down pipe and S/S exhaust with center exit exhaust.

race pedal box, G60 brakes, heavy th's rims but planning on getting some light weight rims for the hill with ultra soft tyres!

Planning on getting a fiberglass bonnet hopefully and wings would be nice also! lol

No idea on weight of it, i need to loss more weight due to the fat fecker sat in the driving seat! lol
move battery into middle of car also, 4L life line ext plumbed in also.

My 1.6 gti rallycross mk1 is 840kgs with me in it.
Thats including full race suit, helmet etc. and I weigh 78kgs.
Standard body panels. Still with the bumpers. I have all the cross braces from
the bonnet removed and the inside of the boot. Perpex windows apart from the
windscreen. All the undersealer still remains as does sum of the tar
stuff on the floor. 4.75lt alluminium fuel tank. 6kg battery. Sparco 6pt
roll cage, bucket seat with steel mounts. Top of the dash still remains
with clocks and 2 extra guages. I also have a heavy "X" shape lower
strut brace. Also has an Ashley exhaust system.

A friend has a rallycross 205 similar spec and it weights 830kgs with him in it.[:x]
He had to put 5kgs back into it though.

I think we used to run my old Mk1 at 920kg originally with driver so thats about 820kg without the lardy driver. Although I think there may have been some lead bolted in at that point.

The rocco was built for weight though so was quite a bit lighter...I will see if I can dig out what it weighs.

    Rocco was 760kg.....before ballast.

We thought it would be a lot heavier than the Mk1 so we built it light, but we were all amazed when it came out a lot lighter.....then we had to ballast it....DOH!

My Mk2 was 830 but have taken more weight out since then, This has resulted in a Brands laptime of 56.1 and Two 3rd place finishes this weekend :p

Claire quoted around 810, so tallies up.

Scirocco was down to an amazing weight - 50kgs down, with bigger overhangs. Every bracket must have been jettisoned!
