Steve my Mk3 is 98Okgs last year. But it does have a VR6 lump with the new fiberglass panels we hope for the 940 mark. But to get it in the 820kgs region will take some serious work. Whats the plan or is it still undercover until the season starts.

    An interesting read.

Back in the days when there was a Road Rally national championship one local hot shot had his Sunbeam's shell acid dipped to loose a few extra Kgs!!

    Impressive.

Looking at Pascal's VR (980), I was tempted to call in the 930-950 range, what with the weight of the turbo, intercooler, plus the optimistic noises.

How much shell hacking has it needed? Or is it everything else that's been removed?

I've not drilled any holes or removed any steel well only the rear seat frame so once i've done the doors and a few other bits 850 is possible. i do still have all the underseal to remove at a later date from the underside i do i just leave it.

That is a good weight Steve. Never thought the Mk3 would be down as much as that. Will have to get mine weighed, as although it has a heavier engine probably, will have a lighter shell / cage.

I have finally had mine on the scales at work, and its not good.

with me in it, 1/4 tank of fuel, full fluids, and the spare wheel in etc, 950kg, so with it its 870kg

I still have more to junk, like the windows, hatch and bonnet, and then I need to move the wieght as with me i it the front is 600kg and the rear is only 350kg.

Ill get it back in to work soon and play with removing the excess like the spare etc and see what that does...

    Hi all,

i have a fully stripped mk2 with a vr6 lump. it weighs 855kgs on scrap merchant scales.

i found a nice way of getting rid of the floor tar by freezing with co2. all the tar just cracked off by hitting it. did the whole car in under 30 mins.

Anyone got a somewhat definitive weight on a corrado 2.0 16v, stripped out track car? I have a 16v Turbo Corrado track car project planned so would be useful to know. i think VAG quoted a road going 16v rado at 1110kg so im assuming I can get one down to just over a ton.
    Cheers
    Paul

    Mk2 Golf VR6 weight

Not sure if we should create a thread of ALL mk2 golf weights for those who have stripped or changed engines. Got my mk2 Golf VR6 weighed with the following:

    Mk2 Golf GTI 3dr Shell
    Interior fully stripped
    2 Cobra bucket seats
    Show Cage (weight 22kg)
    9x16 Borbet A's (weight a bit!)
    1/4 tank of petrol
    and 5kg of spare oil/water/jump leads/bag

    Total.....

    1060kg:)

Not too bad really with the VR6 lump. Was taken at local scrap metal weigh bridge for free, just needed to suppy a bit of banter. They even said local rally cars get theirs done their as its calibrated and they supply proper print outs. :)

Cool. I wonder what mine would weigh with standard wheels but mk4 recaro seats and carpet.

I'll merge it with this thread for now - it's got Mk3 data in it.

    Ideally we should split them Mk1 / 2 / 3 - a job for later!

wheres a good free/cheap but accurate place to go get it weighed, would like to get my mk2 weighed when its done, should be very light as I went abit OCD on the dieting, even stripped the loom to the bare minimum[:$]

Could be interested in corner weighting just out of interest, how much does it cost in general?

Spoke to some guy who rally's his awesome 205, and he goes down various places.

I got mine free at a scrap metal merchant, but the other guy gets his done at the local sand/rubble yard.

Don't pay for it; most will do it for goodwill if you're polite!
