Anyone using carbs on a 16v?
What are they like and what sort of fuel consumption like on them?

    yep,theyre fantastic!
fuel consumption is pretty normal cruising around, its when you give it some stick you can watch the gauge go down [:s]

I'm looking for something a bit different.
    They must sound good [:D]
Do they make much difference on the power?

ive got standard valver with recent rings, not sure if heads had anything, new 45 webbers, facet red top pump,s/sprint manifold and magnex system, putting out 175 bhp @ flywheel, feels like more through the lil 14s and diesel box though ;)

175bhp must pull seriously well especially in a mk1 :p

How hard is it to get the carbs set-up?

What would I need for a carb set-up?

bought the full kit from tsr, included 45 webbers, linkage, itg filter socks, manifold, facet red top fuel pump, throttle cable, and cost 1000.seen most carb set ups with a fuel pressure regulater, but mine seems fine without.

really easy to fit and get running,it started straight away and drove pretty well.got it rolling road set up and cost 60.
only problem was that the manifold was like a banana(good job i checked)so put it on a flat bed,and the linkage took two weeks to come!
since set up ive played with the carbs my self with a c.o machine and ive never had a problem. :)

riley, have you had anything else done inline with the carbs, or is yours literally standard except foir carbs? Just interested in power gains from carbs alone, as most seem to just say they sound good and arent aware of many power gains. So that would be about 30bhp gained for you with carbs alone?

riley...thats sounds great....im only running twin 40's on mine and i get mid 20's mpg easy.ive yet to take it on a good run as i only had the idle jets changed two days ago but ive had a 6mpg increase just running to work (yes i use the car every day)

    as for power,
it put out 164.5 bhp @ fly wheel
122 @ wheels (with two f**ked wheel bearings)
    185 Nm torque

Im running a gas flowed head,Oettinger 'High torque' inlet cam.Facet pump, 4 branch manifold and powerflow system (only 1 3/4" dia! but keeps it with a std look ;) )

i got my carbs/manifold and trumpets off e-day, i paid about 200+ish (the manifold was new)
Facet pump i also got off e-bay
    feul reg was about 50
a mate fitted it all for me (that was just under 100)
then a 3 hour carb strip down and RR set up with a rejet cost 170

Im happy with the car...we'll c wot she can do down Pod at the end of the month

    You cheeky fecker [:D]

In all seriousness though, I know a lad that does track days, used to have a mk2 16v 2 litre on k-jet, he fitted a pair of Dellortos.

I asked him if it went better, he said - "Hard to say really , but it sounds good" :p

Getting very tempted, how much is 185 Nm in lf/ft and what sort of revs do they generally produce max power?
