what about the ex TAS ones by new company? They asked me what type thread top for a bilstein PSS9 damper.. to make their nut to fit ones made for my car. just need to suss damper rod thread spec now.
My Koni front insert top mount threads are M14x1.5 Bill I bought some Bonrath poly top mounts earlier in the year and had to source some 'half nuts' to fit them with the Koni inserts. Edited by: GVK
The key distance is the one from the top of the 2.25 ID spring hat to the start of the thread/end of thread. Sometimes the rose bearing top mounts can be thicker than OE, resulting on problems getting the top nut on. Kev H has some special top hat shaped top mount nuts - might be worth a chat.
I think Kevs are the same as what I have just ordered from these guys today. Sleeve nut.. Kev's was not a nice fitment however... non adjustable no extra caster or camber applied or anything.. and the sleeve nut used fell off at Curby. strut fell out! (maybe kev did'nt do it up, but what I saw it was hanging on by its finger nails anyhow) Will have to see what mine turn up as.. as I have ordered blanks after speaking with them this morning so I can stick em where I like adjustment wise, and machine them to fit as I see fit. Can only move top mount a max of 25mm radius from OE
These 'sleeve nuts'/'top hat nuts' (same) always have an appearance of only just being enough to grab a couple of threads. After seeing what happened with Kev's, lockwire would be well worth it. My normal top mount nuts (used on a set of roller tops) used to come loose - just extra vibration...
Yes, thats my take on it. Looks like TAS went under twice having seen Garys link. Once 4 yrs ago, giving rise to www.motorsportengineering.co.uk (ex-employees setting up rival firm) and secondly back in early 2005 when Compbrake emerged (when presumably ex mgt / employees decided to give it another go). Motorsport Engineering based in PR7, Compbrake in PR5 must be like Baghdad there Interesting story in Garys link here about a court case in which Rally Design took TAS to court after TAS registered www.rallydesign.com The site was owned by TAS and *redirected* www.rallydesign.com users to the TAS site. Hence Rally Design has always had this bizarre www.raldes.co.uk domain name... Edited by: Chris Eyre
Compbrake adjustable top mounts on Ebay. Do you set the original camber bolts on the struts to -1 or, -1.5 degrees and add the top mounts, or do you set everything to 0 and then add these top mounts? Are they worth the ~100 price? Is it a good bit of kit to experiment with? I think those 'camber only' adjustable mounts would be better but it looks as though these are a custom job only?
It's getting complex at this stage, since you are effectively altering the King Pin angle (line of intersection between top strut nut and ball joint). Affects front suspension geometry, and best read up by Googling. Base setting from general observations on cars running a fair amount of camber: strut fully back, and fully inwards towards centre of car ie 22.5 mins past and 37.5 mins past on clock face for n/s and o/s when sat in seat. Primarily you are binning the flex built into the rubber top mounts. The KPA is relevant, but secondary.
I've bought and fitted (well someone else fitted them lol) the Compbrake adj top mounts and i've no complaints at all. Definitly worthwhile to play about with, started off with -3deg neg camber and now we are taking it back to -2deg to see how different it feels. even though im a mechanical idiot they allow you to fine tune the car to help you make the most out of it imo.
