Hi guys so I've relocated my battery to the boot and I'm now looking to make my own cai I'm going to be using a badger 5 80mm turbo adaptor so I can run 80mm pipe work to my maf which also 80 mm as I have a k04 turbo But this is where I'm getting stuck I was thinking about running an alloy pipe down to behind the headlight and plonking my filter on the end which Is a ramair filter but I think I may suffer from heat soak later in the year So then I thought about boxing the filter off with an alloy heat shield ?? But won't look very nice Then I thought about running a bmc cda carbon cold air box but I've read it may restrict the engine Quotes from badger 5 on another forum ?? Then I thought about running an alloy 80mm pipe off my maf down to the front of the car between the rad and spot light and fitting a hks mushroom filter purely for space behind there. Obviously I haven't got the standard Airbox to put a panel filter in because it's a mk2 Any ideas as to the best setup for the coldest air ?
You can also run a std airbox with modifications. If you run a cone type filter, make sure it is shielded from the radiator and the engine bay heat.
Would that be smoothing all the fins on the inside, removing the pipe that sticks into the airbox outlet and drilling it below the filter?
For a Standard mk2 .... A K&n filter in the air box as the intake cone give's you the ram effect, do not drill below filter as your only going to suck warm air in if you want more air in a mk2 airbox for modded 16v, 2litre etc ..change the intake ram to one out of a vr6/G60 Corrado will be plenty for a Na car up to 200bhp
Guys Any ideas which standard Airbox has an 80mm intakes to match my maf ? From any car An original Tt Airbox faces the wrong way for me Perhaps a Corrado g60 Airbox ??
That's true ed but the airbox opening will face towards the wing rather than towards the engine so i a little more tricky to route the pipe
This is what I propose as I know you like the intake noise. The maf can stay where it is. Best filter is the largest, which Bill also sells. You would need to take this into account for the heat shield. Outside of the heat shield should be shiny and the inside black. Put a rubber strip at the top and bottom to seal out the heat engine bay and radiator fan. Alternatively there is the cheap and cheerful Honda S2000 air filter, available from Euro car parts for sub 20 quid... Also fasteddie, who runs one of those engines in a similar car suggested a stock 1.8T airbox.
Also interested but want to use standard s3 airbox on my mk2 20vt gt28rs anyone got any decent pics or if Eddie's reading, any tips , cheers
I ran a standard airbox for a while - Only reason I changed it was because it had a crack in it. Also, my previous Mk4 gti daily produced some good power at garage streamline using the original airbox, which was smoothed out and had a Jetex panel filter. I might consider going back ? Not sure yet though.
Hi chaps I forgot to take some pics of how the air filter sits in there oops But this Is a pic I replicated on the passenger side Although I added a tray under the filter for those wet days lol I used my 80mm ram air filter which fitted in there nicely I had to cut the wing support out as it's in the way but once the filter was in place I put another bracket in there to hold the wing steady
