Hi, Problem with starting my Mk1 1.6 Gti (EG engine prefix) when cold. Very slow/difficult to start when cold. When warm - fine Have checked the cold start injector and found as follows: There is 11v on red/black wire when engine cranking Earth wire seems ok Have high pressure fuel to the injector. Removed the injector, placed in jar and cranked engine. No fuel from the injector. Am I correct in assuming that the injector is faulty and needs changing? Any advice appreciated Thanks
looks like it yep! Just to be sure you could try jumping it with 12v direct from the battery while the fuel relay is jumped. I swap the 1/7/18 relay into the fuel pump socket to do this, pump then runs on ignition. If it sprays when doing that, plug the 5th inj harness connector back in then unplug the 5th injector thermoswitch and earth the green/white pin. Crank it over and see if it sprays, if it does then thermoswitch is bad or its not getting a decent path to ground, maybe all the faces/bolts need a bit of a buff up
Thanks for that Will try what you suggest. Passed its MOT last Friday and now taxed and good to go Just ironing out a few electrical gremlims Thanks to you and all members who helped with advice and suggestions One small point. The gearbox fitted has a 4T prefix. Should the speedometer cable have the red or natural(white) gear on the gearbox end? Again. Thank you for all your help and advice
