Have just bought a 2013 Seat Exeo 2.0 diesel & going to replace timing belt. Anyone have a definitive answer to this Q? Does the fuel pump need to to be timed?
Ive had differing answers but most seem to say no as all the pump does is supply the rail with high pressure fuel & all timing is done by the ECU thru the injectors. This makes sense but there are others who say it is essential to time it!
    Thanks

Hi, hope it’s not too late to reply to your question, yes you need to time the pump ! The HP fuel pump produces pulses which has to timed with the engine. It locks with the same style cam pin as per other vag engines. If you don’t it’s not big deal but what I found is hard fuel lines from CR to injectors start to crack due to these unwanted vibrations…

Missed this before too, on the 1.9 (especially in longitudal applications like A4/exeo) they get a slight wobble, feels like flywheel on it's way out, but is usually after timing belt changed and pump not reset, as it's a similar mileage to when clutch problems would appear people think it's the dmf playing up, big bill later and no better.
As the newer engine is more sophisticated I would think it will need setting.
