I heard that post-90 spec beams were "beefier". What does that mean? I might have found a rear beam for my Mk3 but it's from an '86 Mk2 - will it bolt up OK? Is it just a bit heavier?
ive never seen any solid evidence or info to show what the differences are between different beams, it should fit fine as long as the rear brake bias valve fits/works with your car
my 91 g60 rear beam is deffo beefed up compared to the 89 16v...dunno if its the age or the fact its a g60, fits the same regardless
my 1.6 driver ...... has a corrado g60 rear beam ... and the ARB is so beefy that you can make gravy from it so ring up VW breakers and ask for a corrado g60 rear beam
I know this is an old thread but i have had a 90 spec beam next to pre 90 spec beam. The differences between the two are; 90 spec has more gussetting around the trailing arms and is therefore more beefie. 90 spec also runs the solid break lines in a slightly different way. Both of the beam have the same mounting points and are both fully interchangable between 90 spec and pre-90 models. I know this because i helped my brother strip a rusty 90 spec valver that had a polybushed beam, we then moved the beam over to his 89 model and realised the beefiness of the 90 spec beam.
