Hi all I've been restoring my mk2 golf for some 10yrs now and after several stoppages of months even years at a time I'm getting somewhere, I had my Aum 1.8t engine that had only covered 6200k (not 62k) sent to Bill at badger5 for rifle drilled ie rods and calico bearings, I bought a uprated head of Robdon of seatcupra.net along with a gt28rs which had covered 3k, I've built it all up with genesis 550s backdraft motorsport t25 manifold and custom 3" downpipe from Alex at AKS. Now it's never been run in and sat like that bolted in mk2 bay for 3yrs in my garage, now my question is will this still be ok (I'll fire up with coils unplugged) and I've a few extra pennies now so is the efr6258 a better turbo to have and will it indeed fit into existing set up, or shall I just run up what I have, sorry for long winded thread but could do with some expert advice ie Toyotec, sambo or anyone else who knows what there talking about, cheers
Yup EFR6258 is a turbo capable of flowing up to 450bhp of air. Spools similar to your smaller GT28RS. Obviously it is not bolt on. I would get used to what you have first.
You would need a new downpipe or modify the one you have. The 550cc injectors probably won't be big enough either.
What's the current power specs your hoping for? And what would you hope to achieve with the efr etc Your injectors are capable of approx 440bhp @3bar I personally think stick with what you have and get it mapped properly I don't think the added expense of new turbo, injectors, downpipe etc will outweigh the performance gain
Cheers guys, I never really had a goal at the start things sort of just fell in place and a few impulse buys. I guess when mapped it may make 330bhp and that's more than enough for me, way above what I ever thought I'd achieve. Another quick question I have a peloquin diff in my 02j box and wondering if there's any specific or preferred oil to use with these diffs, thanks all
Forget the power number. It is really how it feels to you after. For VW gearboxes, specialist 'hotgolf' of Gas and Gears suggests a hypoid oil with GL-5 specification from 75W/90
