Hi guys. I'm doing an engine swap in my car. I've never done anything like this so it's a bit daunting.
It's a 16v gti and I'm sticking with a 16v motor but with a 2 litre 9a bottom end, polished and ported kr head and abf cams. I've heard this should be a decent set up. My question is I've put the cams in the head and I can't turn them a complete cycle. I thought maybe the lobes are too long on the abf cams so I put kr ones in and get the same result. Is this normal or should I be able to turn it over?

Are you just turning the cams without a timing belt fitted?

Or turning the whole engine over?

If the first, there's probably a piston at Top Dead Centre and valves are hitting pistons .

If the 2nd, you must have the cam belt timing wrong.

If you can't turn the cams in the head make sure the cam bearing caps are fitted correctly, they are numbered and the ones near the distributor are shaped that if put on the wrong way round they lock the cams
