You might find that you can't view over a certain measuring block with the free/sharwware version.

It used to be block 25 on the old vag-com 409.1 I used to use on my VR6.

aye the -6 cf is what your looking for
you should see the same in 209 as well but when i tested me mates r32 i had the same no reading

try looking at 90 91 and 92 and see it's reading both cams

    is yours a 10v or 20v v5 ?

is that at idle did you try rev it to see what it did

my thinking is the chains are ever streched or the timing is out as it should pick up block 209 and it's not
could worth swaping the cam sensor to make sure one is not faulty the allen bolts can come loose on them as well worth checking as well

i could be wrong but thats what i think

That was without the engine running, just the ignition on.
I will swap the sensors around to see if the fault moves, i will do that sat morning as i am also taking the throttle housing off to clean it because that is causing me problems as well, but thats another story...

The blocks 90, 91, 92 what information should i be seeing, and should i do it again with the engine running?

It should be telling you what the cams are doing
Ie you should be able to see if it is advancing the cams or not

If it runs like a bag of nails after cleaning the throttle housing
Doing the basic setting on the throttle sorts that

Ok latest on the lemon ;)

Well over the weekend i had the throttle body off and cleaned it (it wasnt particularly dirty) put it back on and it was just as bad, revs very irratic going up to 3000rpm and back down whilst on tickover!
I tried to do the basic setting in vcds but it wouldnt even let me do that, just coming up error!
So i bit the bullet and bought a new one. fitted it last night and it works perfectly, ticks over like it should and all the throttle related errors are now gone.

So back to the camshaft sensor problem, i swapped the sensors over tonight. cleared the errors and waited for it to come back and it did, exactly the same error which rules out a faulty sensor!
I decided to pull apart the wiring loom housing and the whole section on that side of the engine is all taped up, (not the original tape) including the section branching off the sensor in question!
So i am now thinking there is a break in the wiring somewhere which has been botched up in the past and has now failed again...would i be on the right track with this?

aye you could be and it should be easy to check as well

coluld be worth swapping the the pulgs the wrong way on the sensors and see if it it can read it in the messuring blocks 208 and 209
    would tell you two things
if the problem stays the same it is the wiring if it moves from one to the other it is the chain timing thats out

if it is a wire it should be easy to fit a new wire between the plug and the ecu or just fix the bodged bit

i hate other peoples wiring botch ups
