Hi, I seem to have a spare wire on my 82 cabby,it's a thin black wire that comes out of the light coloured loom
    Casing at front of block,
It's the one with the two plugs, one plugs on to water flange, and the other plug goes to the"thing"with the two fuel
    Lines going to it.wur?
This black wire has nothing on it(just the wire).
    Any ideas plz.

chase it back in case its a random colour repair spliced onto the original wire. if black/blue its the oil pressure switch, red/yellow would be for the dash temp.

if the car has points ignition its the spade to starter motor pin 15a, which supplies the coil with full 12v when cranking for easier starting

It's an original wire not spliced coming out of the sheath it's not that long either but could have been
Cut or broke in the past.its hasn't been added it's oe.

have another look, it might be black/blue but very dirty? its the only factory wire i can think of that would be with those wires you mention apart from the black wire to starter.

if the wiring loom is from a later kjet then it would be the 5th injector power feed to the starter 15a, if you look at your 5th injector does it have a black wire or a red/black?

Ok I've checked it again in better daylight and I can confirm it is dark blue and possible black also.i think it had an extended
Wire attached to it (that I found under the car.)i must have disturbed it doing my engine change.so I think as you say it
Goes to oil pressure switch.problem solved:thumbup:

Hi I need a gasket for water flange on my 1600 cabby (82).
I've tried heritage they out of stock, however ive found one on eBay that's listed for a t25 looks the same.
Is it likely to be a part for other models.my flange is metal one centre hole40- 50mm approx and two bolt holes.

is it the flat base type then, rather than havign a groove for an oring? decent gasket paper will do if its flat, just need to make sure head and flange are both nice and flat.

    linky for the t25 part?

Made my own from gasket sheet done the trick.but thanks anyway.
now a new issue this car just keeps throwing up more and more.the banjo fitting
to my fuel pump is cracked and leaking fuel not sure how long it's been like it.
ive looked into new line at 50quid(pump to accumulator).but if I knew what to look for for size I can buy
just the banjo.seen plenty on eBay but not sure what I need.any ideas.thanks

Ok thanks once again rj.build is going good eg engine is now in running/idling.i have bombarded you with questions
But this forum has helped me loads.
One more though I'm going to remove all gear linkage and replace all the worn parts ive seen two repair kits but differ
A bit .one has the shifter plate assembly and the plate with rivets.
The other kit dosnt seem to have the above but has more plastic inserts one of them being orange which isn't in the first
Kit.now I don't what one to go for.gearstick is sloppy like stiring soup.

If you can find Wheeler Dealers Season 1 Episode 5 the car is a Mk1 Golf GTI and one of the jobs is the shifter repair.

It's the first Wednesday of the month so 6th of April if the field is dry.

Ah right I didn't realise it's a VW Rally at Stanford Hall. Big show even has it's own website then http://www.stanfordhallvw.com/

I might go to that then, but not if it clashes with Curborough I really want to sprint the car there this year.

That's a shame, but it might not take place anyway. Next Earls Barton would be Star Wars day.
