Flickering Xenon headlight

Hi guys

Just brought myself an MK GTi and I have an issue with the nearside xenon headlight. I've noticed since Sunday that it goes off and back on intermittently while driving which leads me to think it might be a loose connection or bad contact. Can anyone else shed some light as to what else I should be looking for? First car with Xenons so I know it's not simply a bulb and some wiring!

Factory or retro fit?

 

on my audi flickering is usually associated with ballast, if its the bulb it just goes

 

When a bulb went in an aftermarket Xenon set I had, it started going purple/violet before it stopped working, but never flickered.

I'd suspect a dodgy connection somewhere or ballast pack has a fault.

I think I'm going to try and swap the bulbs around at some point but looking at the DIY guide, this is not a simple task!
