Quiet enough not to bother you if you stick it round the corner from the garage.
Put it this way, I have one I use as a spare for TSC island, and from inside the house I can't hear it at all. The house is built from hardboard and pine cladding, and has holes in it big enough for a wild pig to climb through. Wolf brand, I think it is, but they are relabelled and sold by everyone including B&Q. 600w constant, rated at 720 peak but will pull about 900w peak and 850 constant if you need.

could you run a car battery and a light?

then when you are done, take battery home to charge?
my garage is just a little to far from home to run a power lead to it and is dark come the evenings now.

I'd be very tempted to tack a massive extension cable to the outside wall - you can get a 50 metre one from Screwfix. 29.99 plus 1.09 for a box of cable clips. ;)

solar light and cordless power tools. charge them up overnight and get a spare battery. alt option is a geny but they can attract attention due to the noise.

I have the same situation , i have a 12v 225ah gel battery from a bus connected to a 1000 watt inverter to supply a 220vac 2x36 watt TL fitting, will run the light for about 8 hrs before recharge, i also run a grinder from it when needed. I could get more duration from the battery but the inverter shuts the power off when the battery level drops below a fixed level so you don't get stranded if its fitted in a car , down side is the battery weights 48kg

Stumbled over a recomendation for this in an LED lamp test I ripped out of Practical Classics earlier.

Unsure if the model is current tho.

I've got a mixture of LED rechargeable lights and an old fashioned 12v lead light, that runs off a spare battery. You can get by with that if you need to.

I've also got a few Ryobi One+ battery tools, so if I need to do a bit of drilling or grinding on the car, I can.

I bought a few LED lights from LIDL - the little round stick-on ones that take 3 AAA batteries each. You can wire 3 of them in series, to a car battery, and run off that for ages.

Thats what I would do. The cable could also save your life if there was a fire.

i tried loads off different things, mainly LED type rechargable lights, ended up with a 2.2kva generator, so much better but as said it attracts attention.
