I have posted a bit about my ongoing project...aren't they all..and now I need to get down to removing the auto box that a previous owner fitted to my 92 8v GTi...what I don't know is what manual box I need..I'm going down the authentic route with my project and hence just need help in identifying exactly what box I should be looking for? Is it a 020? What is the 020A or 020J for example?. And are there any other codes I need to know?.E.G. what does the AUG code mean that I've seen mentioned?. Any help is greatly appreciated? Cheers
92, is it mk2 or mk3? Mk2 as Jon said is 020, Rod change and cable operated clutch. Mk3 gti I'm fairly sure has an 02a, which is cable change and hydraulic actuated clutch. 02j is very similar to 02a, but newer, came in the mk4 Golfs.
Thanks Jon..I will get a linkage repair kit whilst I'm putting it all together. I assume you mean gearbox mount and not engine mount, as I'm guessing the engine mount is the same whether it's auto or manual?
MK3 gti is 020 as well, only abf/tdi/vr6 went 02a. for mk2 GTI 92 it should be an AUG box, but an ACD would also be fine (only difference is AUG has taller 2nd) you could use earlier 9A code but watch out as some have 90mm flanges. The earlier MK1 90mm flange boxes could also be used, the flanges just need swapping. but if you go too early they dont have holes for the MK2 gearbox bracket. MK3 box CHE/CHD also go on fine plus a 16v 2Y code but for any of these you need a MK2 16v clutch kit as they all have larger input shaft
