Hi all, my wife Mk5 Golf 1.9tdi (105bhp) is having starting issues.

When its cold it fires up first turn of the key.....once its warmed up and been driven up to temp it doesnt start until after turning over for 3-5 seconds.

Its getting bad now as its starting to drain the battery (i realise it may need a new one but this wont solve starting).

Cant find any answers after searching.

Can you carry out a diagnostic scan?

Engine needs certain RPM to inject fuel, i think its about 200rpm. Worn starters dont get anyware near this when warm so your engine is cranking until it fires.

I had same problem, 1st action was to replace temp sensor with genuine one, made no difference at all.

Worn starter is quite difficult to diagnose as its still spinning at what seem like normal speeds.

Just replaced mine 2 weeks ago with Bosch recon starter from ECP with discount and surcharge it ended up costing 130 Solved the problem and the engine starts much better without what seem like rocking all over the place.

Takes about 30 minutes to fit. 2 bolts
