so hopefully some use to other people. ive wonder for a long time about the wing aerials, imo they look gash! i thought about beesting etc. but another member pointed me to this theory. so i will explain the process.

(sorry for the not so clever pics.)

here you can see the inner wing of the near side front wheel arch (where the aerial is mounted) you need this off to be able to get access to the aerial, so firstly undo all the bolts securing the inner wing inplace it has about 8 bolts i think that are 8mm.

when this is removed unscrew the aerial securing bolt which is situated on the outside of the wing, when the screwing nut is released take off all the washers and gubins. then pull the aerail through the hole towards the floor. if you lift the bonnet you will see where the aerial cable passes through a hole you need to pull the aerial and cable through this hole.

once this is completed remove the rubber seal on the rain tray.

once this has been removed there are a few little clips that hold on the thin plastic that covers the rain tray where the pollen filter and wiper motor are.

remove these, some may need a flat balde screw driver to prise them off.

you should then see something like this underneath. it should also be bone dry.

there are some wires in a plastic wrap that i cable tied mine to, make sure it secure. Now is a good time to test your radio, it should work spot on!

then replace the pastic cover and rubber seal.

Then fit the rubber grommet over the hole in the wing, i got a pack from halfords for about 3 quid called "aerial grommets"

then replace the plastic inner wing with the securing bolts.

and hey presto! you should have a niceley working radio
with the horrible wing aerial successfully removed!

there is small video below just to prove it works.

    enjoy.

I've done similar, but I used one of these ariels instead that usually fix to the inside of the windscreen.

doesn't the aerial need to be bolted to a metal for earth?
