Im running a Mk1 Golf Gti with a 2.0 16v out of a Mk3 Golf Gti and its quite nice at 150BHP. I have been looking at some power upgrades and even with my SuperSprint exhaust system including new manifold, Im struggling to gain anything. I have had a few ideas like Shrick cams and doing headwork but as yet am happy enough with 150BHP.
Sneaky, heard about it about this from the man in the shed on Sunday Ironic that this thread has been bumped up
Gary, this was about 1998 and JE weren't really commonplace over here (except V8 stuff) so they were direct order. There are quite a few JE stockists over here now so I would be surprised if someone didn't have em' on the shelf. At worst I would think JE would have em' on the shelf ready to ship.
Interesting post guys. On the subject of pistons, does anyone know the maximum bore you can take a KR block out to? I am about to undertake a full on-the-limit rebuild in the next few months...
Throttle bodies or carbs with will always produce less torque than a well designed plenum chamber, but if you're looking for power then individual butterflies are useful. But for the 16v engines which have always lacked on low down torque, for a road car i'd say the plenum chamber would be a more pleasurable car to drive due to the lower down torque.
Most people will say 83.5mm altho you can buy 84mm pistons, but the walls will be seriously thin and this will cause problems with heat, C&R had/have a car with 84s fitted that used to drink oil.
I remember that mk2. red one with the german fighter stickers. Drunk oil really bad. Doesn't help with the diesel crank either which tend to aid oil usage.
