Just bought this from everyones favourite auction site here Supposed to be cosworth, I have to stop buying things.. Butterfly area is 40mm and the shaft is slightly under 8mm. anyone seen these before?
Very interesting find! I'm struggling to make a connection so far, unless is's just later-era single seater?
No mike the seller on ebay had a couple of them I have just ordered some stainless bar, now i need to get some throttle plates, might see if i can get some DCOE ones.
women im working for in london husband used to work for cosworth in the 80's, if I see him I will ask him about them.
Drunkenalan The manifold that we have been talking about elsewhere is the same as what you have just bought. Same seller on the bay. Awesome casting and can only find pics of them in use on that engine on the scientific rabbit site. The complete engine that follows the head comparisons. Casting is beautiful isn't it. C
OK...the plot thickens and the cosworth link to our manifolds may well be true. Cosworth did build an engine for supervee that was based on the golf engine, as per regs. Use of their pistons as an option to Mahle has been proven but they did have their own engine. The Cosworth code is OAA C
I have just sorted out some throttle plates and someone to mill the shaft for me, ill keep you informed on the progress
I've also bought one of these I'm hoping it will work withing the tight space restrictions in my polo. What bearings are you going to be using? Would your machine shop provide you with a drawing? I've looked at how Weber DCOE 40 spindles are assembled and I believe they have bushes throughout and o-rings where the spindle exits the carb body. I think this is going to be very interesting!
Yup... no reply as yet ^^ someone might have beaten me to it. You've now got 2 sets of 8v ITB's - stop being so greedy
Somebody say something? Have you got any accurate dimensions yet? Exact bore centres, bore diameters, throttle shaft diameters. If you can get these measured then folk can look at options. It does not look possible to make it 2 x pairs with a balance adjuster in the middle because of the centre runners being so close together so the shafts out of weber dcoes are not going to work. Drunkalan mentions 40mm dia so plates out of weber dcoes may be an option for the butterflies. The shafts could be drawn up and machined to suit. Accurate measurements are the first step I reckon.
Danster! I'm going to try and get the casting into our inspection department on Monday, hopefully they will run it through the Cordinate Measure Machine - will keep you posted.
i have just got a 8mm dia stainless rod which i plan to get milled to mount some butterflies from a pair of butchered 40 mm solex's, i hope to get some oil impregnated nylon bushes turnedfor the ends of the shafts, i doubt you could bush the middle ports. ill keep you upto date with my progress.
