the best way is to look how much it would cost to replace it with a car of the same or similar condition and spec take a average of cars on the like of autotrader and add a small amount for inflation 3 to 5% most mk2 GTI range from 1000 to 5000 though good cars can be had for less and lots of people pay over the odds for some this is for a stranded unrestored car of fair condition mint low mileage or well fully restored car will be worth a bit more
