Anyone know how to identify early mk1 engines, 1.1 to 1.3? Reason is i am not sure if engine has bin replaced. log book states 1.1 but m8 thinks its a 1.3 any idea?
don't think there's any major differences between early 1100 and 1300. later 1300 hydraulic engines have 3 bolts along cam cover
Engine code is on the lip of the block behind the alternator top bracket. 'top of my head you're looking for FA, GG or GF. Can't equate these to engine sizes right now. Anyone?
Will look for engine number, in log book it says engine code GC but i cant find any relevant info in haynes for that engine. m8 thinks its a 1.3 because its quite nippy!
Carb is solex 31 PIC, and again this carb not listed for 1.1 as far as i know Car including all mech bits are all original as its only 1 lady owner from new and covered 43k miles!
My mate had a polo with the same 1.1 engine as the golf, new carb and a few other bits and he was getting a 100+ on the speedo and seeing off nova SRs back in the day! Dont think they are *that* slow as they are quite light
Hey, I saw 105mph on the speedo in my Mk1 1.1 Golf. Big ends went not too long after though. Well during doing 105 actually.
I know what you mean. It is suprisingly nippy and other day i was giving a car good spanking before the mot as it has been standing for nearly 3 years and i'v seen nearly 100mph out of it! It went through mot first time
Yep - 31 PICT is 1.1. I wouldn't say there's anything nippy about them though. Formel E engine perhaps?
