Well..... I've fallen victim to the old: "guy only looks left as he's turning right" scenario, Bloke in a Golf MK6 pulled out straight into the side of me! That black thing on the door is the other guy's reg plate! I've not had chance to fully inspect it yet but its looking like it needs both doors and trims, decals etc! the rear door needs a good slam as the sill is slightly buckled near the bottom of the B pillar; I presume it will need a new sill aswell then? (including decals!). Funny thing is, on the same I spoke to the guy's insurance (direct line) who said they'd admitted full liability and would be sending a courtesy car on monday (Corsa from Enterprise) and would take my car away and repair it! (To Wimpoles in Ashton-U-Lyne). I've told them to wait till I've spoken to my own insurance company. Can the repairers still get hold of genuine parts, decals etc? would they repair it or write the thing off? Anyway' I'm well ****ed off!
Yeh, I think as much myself; I suppose that would lead to the old arguments over value.......and the hassles involved in removing the parts worth keeping/ selling!
you can insist they repair it though. What they 'want' to do is irrelivant, he hit your car so you have a right to be put back in exactly the same situation as before. No car and some money in your pocket isn't the same as before. Stand your ground and make them fix it, they seem to be being pretty decent so far
I would guess that the price + availability of new parts +labour (probably the decider) + paint + consumables + hire car for the duration would be well more than the worth of the car!
^^ the fact that in the insurers eye's the car is worth about 50p, and two brand new doors from vw would cost 600 probably
^^ tbf, if you were doing it yourself you could have it fixed a lot cheaper as you could source second hand doors, fit them yourself and then just get it sprayed at your local place. Insurers arn't allowed to do that, so you can X the amount by 10, and a bit more as the bodyshops know its out of insurance work!!
And if you do get it fixed by the insurance co its will still onl be wortn 500 cos its an insurance job ad will be recorded. Just ditch it, pointless getting hung up on cars that can eaisly be replaced.
I've just cut up my own Mk2 cos the shell was less than perfect, and am looking for a better one because they ARE availabel. I bet that Jetta isn't as clean they they think if thety really look at it. . . .
Posts edited to make it look like you two are having a more civilised discussion. Keep it nice or I send TSC over to teabag each of you.
mk2's are available, but even then good one's hard to come by. Jetta's not so. Picture's are deceptive but there doesn't seem to be a mark on it (other than the crash damage) I'm not a retard. "just buy another one attitude" just doesn't always apply, especially with cars that are 20yrs old. I will imagine you will find the same when trying to find a decent mk2 shell?
