you will be okay running the pump in the bay, the majority of people who have carried this out have had little problems.

As long as you have some form of filter there before the pump it should be okay.

I stuck with the original fuel filter from the orignal engine off the 1.6 with no problems and I expect quite a few people have done this too.

I've given up answering questions, everything is covered in the guide. If you can't fill in any gaps you might come up with then just leave the car well alone! [:p]

Thanks. So the lift pump will pump petrol through a filter and on to the engine bay (R1 pump) no problem? What is the point of the lift pump in the tank. Is that just for priming the main pump?

Fair enough Jolfa but I just was not sure if it will 'lift' the fuel to the engine bay quick enough! I am thinking of mounting the R1 pump in the engine bay and I was just looking for some sound/safe advice. Perhaps it would be easier if I just fitted a regulator in the bay instead.
I'm getting my totally refurbished engine back soon and I want to have this sorted out in the mean time.
    Thanks.

Is it ok to mount the filter after the bike pump or will this affect the pressure/volume? The original filter was mounted after the main pump and I am wondering if the lift pump will be capable of pumping from the tank, through the filter and on to the engine bay where the R1 pump will be! I could fit the R1 pump in the boot but it would have to pump petrol through the filter and then on to the carbs. I just am not sure of the best option.

    Please just read the thread.

Put the bike pump on the roof and the filter in your headlights if you really want!

I'm just lacking a bit of confidence Jolfa and I will apologise as I missed the info about the lift pump earlier! I'm going to fit the pump in the boot and will fit an inline filter in the engine bay. Got my engine back today so it's all good. I will post some pics of my efforts soon.

I'm glad most people on here actually read the guide, rather than skim through the pictures and then ask a question answered within the first couple of paragraphs like on other forums

Nothing worse than a cocky 'Know-it-all' though.
