Sean, lots of mk2 16v's put out 150bhp on Stealth racing's rollers ( known to be one of the more conservative UK RRs)
Sorry did not realise! Usually most cars produce less than the quoted manufacturers figures. This is often due to the fact that they blue print the engines & the test conditions are set to optumise the cars performance. i.e. cold damp conditions. Why is his car producing better performance & by quite a bit? just set up well? Just happens to be a well matched engine? Thanx 4 any knowledge! Sean
Hi Sean, Figures taken on AMD rollers after car had done some 50k + miles. Geoff Everitt`s comments were that many standard cars produce more than the factory quote; mine was a pretty good one. The factory, he said are always `conservative` in their quotes. I ran it in from new (Aug `91`)on VW mineral oil for 10k then switched to Castrol RS (10/60W)for the next 70k with oil & filter changes at 5k intervals. Tried Mobil One (0/40W)at ~ 80k with the only noticeable difference being slightly `easier` starting. Car was well used but not abused; standard VW services every 10k (very first one at GTI Engineering, rest at local dealer) and never an engine problem. Original clutch and exhaust until sold (`97` - 85k); front brake discs & pads / rear pads changed / uprated at 55k (half worn); suspension changed at 65k when bumpstops gave out. Engine not `run in` until 40k.....definitely quicker & smoother after that ! Cheers
You find the more miles they do the better they get (to a point) with good servicing, some people say the aren`t really run in till 100k!
