I'm building a baffled sump for my Mk2 8v at the moment and looking for some advise on the position of the plates, the size and position of the holes that should be in the plates.I also need to leave gaps or notches at the bottom to allow the oil to be drained when changing the oil. I also have the windage tray to fit and this is the stage i'm at at the moment :

    Hello Mate,

I am looking at doing this also some time soon for the MK1. However i have the MK2 sump to play with.

Just showing your link to a guy a work and he reckons on his 1.9 Pug sumps have a one way trap door set up into the pump side of the section plate.

Sounds like an OK idea to try! Shame the poxy French already thought of it.

Ive seen the trap door type on sumps from the states (not VW), I'm looking at something like what TSR did on the 16v ones :

Yeay as long as the holes you put in both plates are not aligned like the shot blast one than the oil has less of a direct path to and frow across the sump!

Silly question, When doing an oil change how do you get all the oil out of that pan.

looking at both sumps, there is a gap under the baffle plates so oil can still drain out :)

Ive cut the plates out and welded the baffle plates in, next need to get it sand blasted in and out and re-paint the outside.

Do the baffle hole look big enough to allow the oil to still flow enough?

Helps prevent oil surge and possible oil starvation during long fast cornering or hard braking.

Right, I do have the templates, only problem is they are on an old HD that killed my last pc with viruses. I really don't want to risk plugging the drive in but my mate might still have the wooden ones he used as a template.
