mk1 golf 1.1c, now with added ALT 2.0 20v on 48's!

trumpets went in for print yesterday, each one takes 10 hours! will be picking them up the weekend hopefully

 

What polymer does the printer use ? ABS? Or PP ?

How strong are they?

 

adequately?

 

Just curious, not like they are going to be getting a belt of anything, but vibration and the likes, especially in a lowered car.

I haven't seen or held any 3D printed parts like that so just wondering what the finished article is like, I just thought they might be a bit brittle.

 

yeah, i'm unsure too. the intention is to wrap them in kevlar to give them a bit of strength

the most important thing i'll need to do is make them fuel resistant, so they'll be getting a bit of work done to them once i've received them!

got them back from my friend with the printer last saturday, even though i design things in production every day, it was nice to see something for a personal project come to life from a design

the first thing i needed to do was make the bases that would attach them to the 48's. so i ordered up some stock and got to work

and it was time to add the trumpets







next up, some panel work, wings bonnet all need aligning, bonnet pins need fitting, grill mounts, headlight mounts, need to redo the front engine mount!

 

They look the bizz dude. Super work.

From a show perspective, that is something that is very different. Certainly you cannot really buy that!

had a hectic 3-4 months overhauling my RS4 with new bushes, brakes, arms, bearings, intercoolers, wheels, the list goes on, which meant the golf was on a bit of a back burner



Need to get the engine running in the Golf before the end of April as that's when i'm picking my Sierra up from paint, with the 2 biggest tasks being wiring and plumbing in the vacuum, fuel, oil and brake lines, after that lot is done the shell is off for media blasting whilst i build up the Sierra and fit a 24v

spent a few hours yesterday stripping the gearbox -




hoping to have the engine built up and back in this weekend with new gaskets, seals and cambelt!

 

I love the proper tyres on the RS4, none of that stretched crap!
