Hi there folks, hope everyone is doing ok.

I’ve recently rejoined Clubgti after being a member in the late 90’s when I first brought my mk1 gti tintop, aka Pyp.

Family, career and relocation saw my attention move away from Pyp and around 2005 I gave her to my mate. The idea being he had the funds and the time to get her on the road. After a couple of years he took Pyp off the road and she went into storage....well he put her in his garage.

I was out with said mate for a couple of beers (pre-Covid obviously ) and conversation soon came round to the mk1. A couple of weeks later he calls me and asked if I wanted her back. Clearly I said yes and off she went into a local vdub specialist (Beetlelink, Farnham) for recommissioning.

A couple of months and a hefty bill later she finally came home with a fresh mot. That first drive after all those years was awesome. I’ve still got plenty of work to do, but at least she’s road legal and putting a smile on my face.

The plan is to keep her as original as possible. The bodywork is pretty solid, with only a couple of rust areas to sort out which will be sorted over the winter.

No surprise that she has one or two electrical issues which I should be able to sort out myself. These are mainly; oil warn light and buzzer constantly on and the wipers and heater fan still on when ignition off. I’ve read the forum and have picked up a few tips so will get these sorted ASAP. I’ve already flattened the new battery because I left the fan on .

Anyway, that’s me and my mk1 saying hello. We’ve also got a 2012 T5 conversion camper, aka Colin. Not that it’s getting much use at the moment.
