**Apologies - I don't know why the pics are so big**

Rewind to August 2016 and I bought this - for the 3rd time.

****ed around with a few looks

    Went all Edition 38

And then these came up for sale.

Oh what to do with them? Slap them on the existing TSR 2.1 8v?

    Nah

What else to do with spare cash but invest in the Welsh economy - 2Y with 02K bits + Quaife + 4.25FD. And a lightened flywheel thrown in for the hell of it.

    Painted

    Fitted with new Sachs clutch

Dropped in with a KR/ABF hybrid engine.

    Good beginners' suspension

And to keep the flappy bonnet in place

In preparation for the coming wiring fest I fitted a mk2 Golf fusebox holder.

To make room for this little lot

    New SKF driveshafts fitted

A few JMR bits - dizzy block off/coil mount

    Close up

    Flange

    Mounts

Mk3 alternator/water pump pulley set up

Random bits - modified cambelt cover, adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, Sytec fuel filter

Just for the sake of a bit more clearance I fitted a Spal fan

I then removed the factory oil/water cooler in favour of a Mocal Oil Cooler and thermostatic take-off

Polo GTI oil filter - again, just for an extra bit of clearance (and also much easier to remove)

Checking some of my previous work - I fitted this sender back in 2004/5

And a new tank went in at the same time. I also drove to Holland to pick up a NOS filler neck. It seems to have done it's job..

Here's why I fitted the mk2 Golf Fusebox holder

Four new relays - ECU, Wideband controller, High and Low beams. Thanks to RJ for his posts and help and advice

Also, fitted a mk4 era battery top fusebox. As you can see, I've fitted two new power supply wires to the fusebox to replace the single factory one

Dismantling the factory wiring (which was from a mk2)

    Starting on the ECU wiring

    Bit neater

    Injector harness

Few more bits added - mk3/4 era expansion tank, Mocal catch can, Wiechers strut brace

    Air temp sensor

    First electrical test

Started off at 3.5 bar with the G60 injectors but later changed to bigger "Red Top" items and dropped down to 3 bar

    USRT "Mushmeister"

With some Toyotec magic I was able to get in running well enough to get it through it's MOT

As part of the next phase in this project, I need to cut down the airbox a few inches

Thanks for taking time and share these developments with us.
I appreciate it takes a lot of time these days.

Good on you for showing off what you have been up to

I like that a lot, I think my next (old) car will be an ABF on ITB's. I really wanted to on my old golf but funds said otherwise.

    Car looks great!

Cheers chaps. Got a bit more done -

So the reason for cutting down the airbox was so that I could fit this

The horizontal rod goes through the bulkhead (ignore the crappy bolts, I'll replace them all later lol )

Luckily I found some kit-car vents so I have still have heat-to-feet when I want it (this is a view looking up from the floor)

This is the bracket that has to be mounted to the other side of the bulkhead

    Great build! Looks realy tidy.

I'm considering changing my oil cooler for a thermostatic sandwich plate like you have done.was it a straight swap? Or did you have to shorten the center oil pipe which the filter screws into?
    Cheers chris

I had to get a shorter centre piece - I had one from a mk1 lying around which did the job - although lots of cars (even new ones) have the same pipe. The Mocal kit comes with a slightly wider pipe which screws on over the original pipe and keeps the sandwich plate in place. That said, I've now removed the Mocal and gone back to oil/water cooler (winter mode lol)

Engine is unmodified so expecting anything from 150 upwards. Manifold is the generic 4-2-1 that everyone seems to sell - 400 from Heritage or 200 from ebay. System is a single box off-the-shelf s/s 2.25inch from Powersprint in Germany.

At the moment the 4 branch is jammed up against the steering rack so it's going to have to modified or replaced by something custom. As you can see from the last pic, with the JMR linkage the exhaust no longer needs to swing to the left - hopefully I'll be able to use one of my ABF manifolds and a custom downpipe.

    Thank you.

My Mk1 Golf is running a 9A on ITB`s, manifold is an Ashley (I think ?) to a Supersprint system from the previous modified 8v ... I was looking for a comparison re. possibly needing to run a larger diameter system.

Cleaned up some wiring yesterday - so no longer embarrassed to take full interior shots lol

Thanks for all the positive comments. It's now mapped and just needs the exhaust tweaking. Then I'll be halfway to where I want it to be lol
