The tunnel isn’t wider, it can’t be, the seat rails are the same in both cars.

I was comparing mine, I’m going to cut the tunnel off above the seat rails, section the Syncro one at the same point and weld it in. Like a cap, think this will be better than cutting the floor and messing with the seat mounting points.

It’s definitely not wider at the rails, but bulkhead up to the seat rails it looks wider.

that’s what I’m planning, without the Rallye tunnel. I’ve cut above the rails and will make it fit back on

It’s wiring time! I need to splice T14a into the loom and then splice the plug end of the loom into the Mk2 loom. Easy, right?

Mk4 loom, just need to finish the brown plug, now I know where it’s going. So can splice and extend.

Then pop this lot into the loom.

    Edit*

T14a is now friends with the CE1 loom

    Big day today!

Started the day with a bit of rust repair,

    3311304D-FE3A-457F-B929-1B2F823F62F8.jpeg

    Usual stuff there, nothing special.

Removed the fuel tank filler thing, because it won’t be needed with the fuel cell that’ll be fitted.

    Then onto the fun stuff.

    2ABC96F8-807D-47ED-A810-F88060CB7093.jpeg

    Measured up a cross beam,

    F0B5F43D-9DA6-47EE-8630-71F3DA0C8828.jpeg

    Diff bracket welded up.

    DCB43021-0F63-420F-A45B-9F47324CCD6F.jpeg

Then some supports fitted and tacked into place, then fully welded.

The diff is now mounted, I’m going to add more support and build a structure around it, a place for the battery and then a frame for the fuel cell but that’ll be done at a later date.

    Front fitted.

    Rear fitted.

Touch down!!! i wanted to get the engine and gearbox in, prop fitted but we couldn’t find the rear engine bracket dad said he had

    One day they’ll be useable!!

Its super slammed at the moment, the coil overs need winding right up. But it rolls around, which is nice!!

Will sit down later and update the first photos. i used the TT tunnel which is the same on the MK4 Golf/ all the 4mo 20vt versions, helped with the prop as it bolts back in the central location as it should also can run a 3" with no problems but a mk2 carpet wont fit due the tunnel being being higher and wider but a mk4 carpet fits fine which is what i got.

eventually will do a syncro rear axle as mine sits with a lot of camber at the moment

ah okay, I didn’t think of using that tunnel. Like I say, I’m just going to wing it and build it as I go.

I’ll either get a carpet made up or make one up myself, it can’t be that difficult?

Oh really? Is that due to the arms you made? I saw those in the thread.

I suppose for me i had it there already so made it work, i also did try to raise the existing a bit.. from memory its only like the rear ish section that ends up being close and touching the prop.

Prob few places that can do it i guess the time to make one would be the pinch. paid £20 for the Mk4 carpet.

i wanted some camber to try and tuck the wheels in as the rear axle setup is a lot wider than mk2 but eventually will revert to a syncro just means new drive shafts, possibly shorten the prop, but made sure that the original mounting points were left untouched.

Yeah I looked at bolting a TT on but it would have been too much work to keep it as OEM as possible. Then this lot came up, which was nice.

I’ll have a look into it, might be worth a go.

Well we are back to wiring, sadly!

Thought I’d start cleaning up my engine loom.

Yeah I know but that’s £50, that I don’t really want to spend. I replaced most of it anyway as it was all broken. I’ll just keep replacing it for free until it’s all gone [:D]

it’ll keep my busy, at least that’s what I’ll tell myself.

Well not a massive day today, but having my daughter around makes it a little harder to focus.

We took the transfer box off the gearbox and found this. So I’ll have to weld that back on. Being cast, that’ll be fun! Lots of heat required!!

    60B44F53-D0B6-4D87-858C-534064D23256.jpeg

But managed to get the gearbox and transfer box on, after a lot of grinding, we managed to make it fit.
    96509CA7-11A8-4909-804F-369F1F772BC1.jpeg

Lots of grinding later and tadaaa D02B377A-7F52-4797-9735-A2B2E58B124E.jpeg

One crushed finger Later and she’s in!
    ED9F9648-0E28-4403-8721-FD901F2C04AA.jpeg

    It’s tight down there!!

    7FA4A6FC-FDB3-4EBE-B27C-5BE188358B67.jpeg

Then we ran into a problem.

    DB83A8D8-B7E2-4C99-8F8C-E6ECF7AC14E4.jpeg C8EFF9B8-788B-49BA-A112-F0FA34D2ECC4.jpeg

my rubber joint seems to be 10mm bigger across the holes, but part number marries up with a mates and his is 90mm. So I assume mine is just knackered.

    That didn’t stop me though.

    More cut for clearance.

    F0F3CE7F-8AC0-45BC-A7AE-8F4E818E5C1B.jpeg

    Then start of the bracket.

    B0D1943E-2FAF-42D7-9B6F-C4884CC6F214.jpeg

Got the drum plates off and a disc on, now to find some carriers, as I assume they are NLA. 1532935A-2074-449A-83C7-D8B10CB53A63.jpeg

and this is where she’ll lay, for now. The most it’ll look like a car for a long time.

A little more today, not a huge amount.

Prop is now in, and running night and straight.

    6B045761-9ABA-40CC-A71F-91D3FA85AB30.jpeg

First job, start a downpipe so tunnel back in, at desired height, although this is my only picture.
    1BED0FFA-C7B6-4252-B2B8-4DEB11898CAC.jpeg

I used some steel rod to just hold it up for the mean time, I need to order some sheet metal to create a butt strap.

then onto the DP. there’s not much room!!

    D8C403C5-5D1F-4A9E-ABB6-03F57095C616.jpeg

    76D7EAF6-254D-4ABF-B0FE-F837F56C680A.jpeg

    FBE1F45F-159E-423E-A4A8-5D0659478CDE.jpeg

It’s tight, this is just rough mock up so far. So don’t criticise my cuts and tacking, I’ll cut it all nicely and properly weld it up when the time comes.

    FBD65FDE-C16C-4EFE-A847-6771C6110554.jpeg

    Tight! But nothing touches.

    9651E78E-3B87-46B3-90B4-C2649379396C.jpeg

    Top view.

and here is the rough shape. I’ll obviously cut it properly and weld it up. But I know it will fit now. So that’s good.

    D818FADF-EE4E-4766-A77E-59C344EAA66F.jpeg

    2256AC3E-0A4F-4B72-B454-F41FC36F1A2B.jpeg

Then onto my mock up fuel cell, one I was planning on buying is a tad too big. So will have to find another, or get one made.

    6D78F74C-0D1C-445C-8D60-2FEECA4FC3EE.jpeg

then started with a boot floor structure.

    411812D8-938B-4D9F-A0FA-1D3C000BD27C.jpeg

but I didn’t get too far with it. I packed up shortly after that.

And a big thank you to Eddie for my roller wheels, it’s much easier to push around on wheels that actually fit!

the other thing about the syncro/mk3/corrado tunnel is the opening is a bit wider to the engine bay so it gives you that bit more space for your downpipe, something to bear in mind if it gets a little too tight. is a bit of a bashed in section right where the downpipe needs to go, heres corrado:

    vs mk2:

Yeah, I’ve got a bit of wiggle room and I’ve got a bit of metal work to do, it’s fine. We’ve got space! If not, we’ll make space [:D]
