In car fuel cells are just a bit too "#becauseRacecar" IMHO. Smells, noise, the need to seal them behind a bulkhead, using up the last bit of bootspace etc. Fine if it's a track only machine. If you're going to do a cell, why try replicate the standard set up? Rather than a single, quieter, newer style in tank pump?
I've got a mk3 filter bracket assembly hung up in the garage if want it, And I'll try and get that window button grommet gasket thing for the motors off the sharan this weekend too and stick it in the post buddy.
Sam, i have a request. Any dimensions for the sections of the rollover jig, where it attached to the shell?
Mainly because I’m lazy and hate wiring so it would plug in and my fuel gauge would work. Plus, means I’ll easily be able to use the standard fuel door as the cell will be under the car I can design that in on one edge. I don’t like the in car design at all, not even sure why I mentioned it
Well a 320 mile round trip to Silverstone for their ‘Lap of lights’ last night has well and truly reignited the flame. Santa bought some presents. And today I got out in the shed, cleaned up and painted my MC, started to clean the bottle, and had a look at my engine that’s in pieces. Although I did forget to take some pictures.
Queue Eminem… Ignoring the mankey mount, it’s so shinyyyy. Took the rear arms off to finally fit the new bearings this week. Sent the cross member and other front stuff for powder coating, need to make my way to Mr Newman to pick up my wiring as I forgot he had it I also need a good rear bumper iron.
This evening was heater matrix. With some foam from hobby craft and some sticky stuff. No idea why everyone complains so much about this, it’s super easy to remove. ew that’s nasty! 1986 forbidden dust. oh that’s better! and we are done! New heater matrix, just need to get some foam from work for the bits that bolt on and we are golden. Ready to be fitted.
I've done loads, always leaving the dash in. Same as you, i don't see what the fuss is about. One thing I learnt the hard way, was to wash the new matrix off with carb cleaner and lots of clean water, some of them come with a kind of waxy/oily coating, and it fogs up the windows terribly.
its becasue one of the earliest guides has you levering off all those metal clips from hell, and leave the blower housing in. when its so much easier to undo 2 more nuts and pull the lot out together. plus go the extra step of removing all 4 vent housings and the associated pipework its literally a doddle dash in or out. yes definitely wash the matrix thoroughly. some are coated in really nasty stuff, it sends plumes of acrid smoke out of all the vents and will stink the car out for weeks. ask me how I know
I didn’t have any problems with my last one but I’ll definitely run this one through. Can’t ruin my traffic light smelly
was bloody terrible on my 1.6, I couldn't even sit in the car just had to have blowers on full and leave it running till the smoke cleared. proper eye watering stuff
Not a huge amount today but it’s now all fully sealed. Just paint tomorrow, hopefully find my ARB brackets then that can go on and then the subframe will stay on. So I’ll tighten everything up. It’s nice stuff Spent most of the afternoon sorting dads car ready for the MOT as he just keeps putting it off. So we bled the clutch, bled the brakes, fixed an earth issue. Now it’s just get the washer jets working and off to an MOT. I also fitted his GTI engineering wheels
