    Some bits turned up.

I’m heading up this weekend, I’ve ordered some 1” box section so get the diff mounting mocked up.

    Support plates and other thing.

Some on the go shots! We had tunnel problems... F1BC0A13-EB92-414D-BFF6-E407FFD9011F.jpeg 41B382C0-059D-432C-B360-1D003E7E90FB.jpeg 96A94F74-1256-4346-8CAE-C06F2AAEFAF7.jpeg

We got some bits done today,

I made up a plate for the sill.

    6E986439-40BD-4E0E-B936-465B0D44F245.jpeg

Then I got bored of that, so I stripped down the rear axle, took the drums off to find it’s got the later style bolt on back plates, means my disc conversion won’t be too tricky.

I had to get the oxyacetylene out to get them off, they were not budging at all.

Then dad came home, we got the diff mounted, and started making some brackets up.

It looks rough now! 10mm steel plate.

    Bracket number 1 complete.

    A bit more progress today.

I finished making the bracket for the diff. Needs a bit of cleaning up, but no need for that just yet.

I’m awaiting some big steel to turn up so that halted progress on the rear end, but once it turns up I’ll be able to make up the frame work for it.

So I did some rust repair. 13BB6321-1122-4993-8469-B178A6786BE3.jpeg AE11F67F-3447-44DF-A3DC-CF1AE3806BA1.jpeg

will be a few weeks until I can do more as I’m away on site, hopefully more will come after that!

Nothing special, but I bought a stop gap AUM 20vT engine whilst I build the 16vT. I was just going to put an ABF in but I can’t be bothered with making manifolds, buying manifolds etc etc to clear the transfer box and stuff. Turbo makes that super easy.

We’ve got 2 looms so I won’t have to touch the original 16v loom, although it’ll probably go stand alone when the time comes.

Got a bit of a bargain, pretty much got the entire Mk4 golf. All sensors, both sides of the wiring loom, pedal. A random exhaust but it has the lambda sensors.

All loaded into the back of the Golf, now she slammed! It’ll live in the back of it for a couple of weeks whilst I’m away.

Nothing interesting, got the engine back to dads house. Stripped all the crap not needed off it. And we now have one bare engine.

I need to book a few days off and get cracking. I want to get it rolling.

    Well...

The people I attended site with are showing symptoms so I’ve been told to stay home for the week.

Time to get started on this

    CD66A66C-8385-48D9-9AFA-1F041DB11BA8.jpeg

One AUM loom and 1 8v GTi loom. I don’t want to butcher the 16v loom for this engine.

I’ve also got the entire Mk4 Golf loom which is nice. Just in case

I started today, so I stripped all the crap out of the 20v loom.

    1653E64A-073E-4564-8CF0-5AAE7A8F44D7.jpeg

Then moved onto looking at the CE1 loom, which has seen better days. I’m going to strip it and see the condition other than what I can obviously see.

    Melted plugs, repairs. All sorts.

Still, it’s all good fun. I still hate wiring. I feel absolutely no different than the first one I did, and failed.

I’ve made no progress on the wiring but some goodies have turned up.

Some cheap and nasties. Mainly for mock up use, but they’ll do for rolling around etc

Despite my hate for wiring, I think I’m making progress.

I’ve got everything I need off all the looms, and now it’s the joiny stage..

I’m all aligned where I need to be, I now need a car in front of me to work out where my plugs need to be

Thanks, I’m glad someone thinks so.
I can’t even see a tiny glimmer at the end of the tunnel with all the bits I’ve got to buy and overcome.

In my head this was going to be a cheap, build it for nothing car using dads left overs.. Well, I’m now using dads car, and all the bits and its already cost me way more than my entire budget I had planned for the ‘cheap’ car. But I’ll have built the car, I’ve always wanted.

Always gets complex and way over once you introduce 4motion into the build, you planning on using the standard syncro diff or going haldex and what you planning on doing to the tunnel for it to clear ?

For the time being, it’s going to stay Syncro.
I want to build a big power 16vT engine, and then upgrade everything ready to just bolt on. But that won’t be for a good while, so the standard stuff will do as a start point.

In terms of the tunnel, just going to wing it.. cut as necessary, weld to fit. Although they seem to be wider (Rallye tunnels etc) i can’t really see why other than bulkhead side, to fit the transfer box, down pipe.

So I’ve cut the tunnel out, leaving the seat rails in. And we’ll see how it turns out once I’ve popped the subframe, engine and box on then joined it with the prop. Who knows.

    I’m just winging it [:D]
