my mk2 16v power steering is shot, squeeks and judders and is basicly in need of replacement, now i know hte pump is working but was wondering - would a mk3 power steering rack fit the mk2 asi can get one a lot easier than the mk2 setup.

Just tried this and it appears you cant just change the track rod ends on the mk3 box for the mk 2 track rods, they are are completely different fit. The mk3 3 ones have a threded section (like a bolt effectively) at the end which screws into the rack, the mk2 ones screw over a threaded section on the rack. Any ideas otherwise I will have to ditch the mk3 box and look for a mk2. Were there different years for these steering rack with different specs.

you have the wrong rods to fit your rack is all. PAS rods just thread straight in, manual ones are secured with a lock nut on a threaded section.
