Found this little gem of interest under the back seat when I removed it: Might help track some more of the history of the car.
Ahhh, shame you are selling the Stealth Mk2 16vT Alex. I think it would be good to keep this new car as it with the 16v for historic purposes. Also should remain a capable and reliable track car like that!! Looking forward to seeing the car evolve whatever you do to it though.
I plan to do the upgrade in such a way that it can wasily be returned to a NA very easily. I'm hoping I can keep the standard O2O box as well, so I don't have to change to a cable change box.
Should be a good car whatever you decide to do to it Alex, If you kept it an NA valver though you'd be bored of the performance unless you spent gazillions on it to make it rev. So I see your point about wanting it Turboed...
Easy mistake to make, i almost ended up trveling to peterborough (500 miles) for some bargain alloys that were the wrong stud fitment!!! Luckily i got outbid with 1min remaining
Good news - the mirrors are changed. I'll take some pics next weekend. Also found the source of the misfire which returned on the way home from Donnington - there is a fuel leak from one of the high pressure pumps near the fuel tank. Basically the fuel pressure drops too low because the pressure escapes from one of the joins on top of the pump. I hope it's just a seal that is needed, rather than a new pump. Will have to sort that as well as the hole in one of the pipes on right hand quick fill pipe. Was getting a bit high on pterol fumes on the way home.
Surely 17' wheels are way too big for a mk2. Didn't those cars race in the standard 14" Montreals when they were new? (I've got a pic from a magazine on my digi cam but can't find the fecking cable) Edit : Found it! 17s looks gash on any mk2 - and besides they don't handle as well as they do on 14s or 15s...
It's all about compromise. I want big brakes (300mm +) when the engine is done, so 14 are too small. 15" are borderline by all accounts, so I have to go bigger. There are no track day tyres in 205/45/16, except for Pirelli PZeros at 180 a corner. I tried to get some for my current Mk2. 17" it is. I don't like the look that much myself, but hey. Unless someone can convince me that 280mm brakes will be good enough to slow down from 140+, that's the route I'm going down. As for handling, as long as the rolling radius is not changed, surely the handling should improve with low profile tires?
It's the increased unsprung weight from the bigger wheels that can be the killer. Alex, you can get some AP 295s that fit under 15s... Mad 20v had 305/308? Hi Spec 4 pots on his mk1 behind 15s also, so they are doable...
Weight is why I was going for OZ Superleggeras. However... AP Racing? My neighbour just told me he knows someone at the AP factory, and can get stuff at factory prices! Might have to have a look at those then.
From my experience with 15s and 17s on my last mk2 the smaller wheels always make the car feel more agile so if you can get some pukka brakes behind 15s it makes sense, plus the tyres are cheaper!
